What is the brand of the touch pad? Possibly it is Synaptics.

Go to synaptics website, download  and install the software then you can disable touchpad via Fn+F1 shortcut or from some other menu.

Follow this link and choose the appropriate package:

Control Panel - Mouse.  Touchpad options can be changed from there

If you have this so, then it does not mean that everyone has the same, even if they have DELL. All depends of installed drivers and configuration.

ThinkPad here I disabled the touchpad in bios settings, along with all the other features I don't use like dvd, firewire, etc.

Usually you can disable the touchpad via a Fn (function key) and an Fx (F1-F12 key - check the pictograms above your function keys) key on your keyboard on a lot of laptops

If that fails...https://www.raymond.cc/blog/touchfreeze-disables-laptop-touchpad-when-typing/

Installing random drivers is the worst way to go about it
