Do you have a VGA cable? Try that to see if you get a picture. Maybe you have hardware problem with your video card.

Best thing would be a video of you when you are doing such operations.

 

sorry but i am not that technically inclined. Easier said then done.

tried different port combinations (all possible) and nothing worked. Should we assume the cable is bad?

Maybe you already tried this,and it may sound stupid, but have you tried to restart your PC with your cable plugged in your card. Maybe Windows will see your TV on startup?
