hey guys

i have been trying to make a bootable XP Pro SP3 CD(first time),for more than 2 hours and have already

wasted 2 CDs.

I have Burnaware Pro and AVS Disk creator on my HD

1)How to make an Bootable .ISO image

2)Than offcourse how to burn it to disk

When using AVS Disk creator,i went to bootable disk, then created an .ISO image of the XP folder, then it asks me add files,i added all in the XP folder than tried to burn, now it says the size of the files exceed the size of the disk.offcoourse 624.ISO plus 640ish added files.

what should i do,recommend me a software and how to work it or help me fix it with AVS or Burnaware

I always use Nero for Bootables.. I actually have version 8, and all I use/have installed is the Burning ROM. Probably will upgrade eventually, but anyway all I have ever had to do with Nero is tell it what I want select the image to burn click and I am done.

Can expand upon what your talking about...are you trying to use UltraISO to burn and are being asked for this?

Nevermind I see what your talking about now from the turorial.. just select the one for your OS/lang/reg or install..

@karachidude:

This is just an example:

Volume: Windows XP Service Pack 3

Volume Set ID: xpsp3_5512.080413-2113_usa_x86fre_spcd

Before you burn the ISO, how do you test if it?

Simple, just use VirtualBox.

1. Download and Install VirtualBox

2. Go to File > Virtual Media Manager

3. Create New Virtual Disk (just follow the step-by-step instruction)

4. Once finished choose the Virtual Disk

5. Go to Settings > CD \ DVD-ROM

6. Put a check on Mount CD \ DVD Drive then choose ISO Image File

7. Start your Virtual Disk and see if it boots the ISO

Well the tutorial was written for UltraISO..and this method is completely different from what I was talking about. I usually already have an ISO image, and then its drop and click..I was actually about to make one, using the same thing..but I want to know if this Method ill create something like a bootable PE CD.. or is it just a disc that will boot to install windows?

Bootable PE (Preinstalled Environment) is a program to make an OS or any program run from a CD / DVD / other media.

A good example would be BartPE: Link

Yeah see the BartPE disc I have uses nothing but whats on the disc.. I can take a system with a new hard drive nothing on it and boot into an 'OE' ( Operating Environment' )of sorts and access files run programs, like Total Commander or anything else I have on the CD..or removable media, that i not dependent on Windows Files. What I use when the system revolts.. my 'OBEY' CD.. an installation CD will simply give you the old blue screen with a few choices that will take you through steps to do an install by running DOS based commands..

a USB installed OS ( which takes some editing ) is basically using your USB as a boot medium .. like a mini hard drive, yet the full OS is installed, though Windows was not created to do so this still can create a few issues..space being one of them...Be nice to be able to boot from an external drive and have everything from MacOSX to Linux installed, this I wish for ( though moving from system to system would be difficult because of drivers and a few other things ). Virtual Box and like software actually gives you this ability, yet you still have to share system resources with the base OS.. In this instance it would be good to have AT MINIMUM twice the system required for running your OS in full capacity..

hmm..a Bootable PE would be cool..gaining access to the HD means that one can recover from crashes and set things staright rite?..

yeh offcourse two OS's on a Pentium D would beat the crap out of it,it merely handles one

efficiently...lol..

Well there are quite a few things that can take place when you will recover windows or use something before boot..File Locked, persistent malware?.. delete it..file put into startup, or an existence that is failing causing redundant rebooting.. gone..Drive failure and lack of hardware to get your files, run a server( pre-installed ) with hardware network driver and transfer to another PC ( or transfer to connected hardware )...wanna replace a file? do it..Thats just the BartPE disk..You can run explorer, Wordpad..quite a few things ( what I really want to do is create my own PE Disk with the NU2Menu, including several programs .. configured and ready to go and be able to reburn/update the disk when needed.. )

For system recovery I have a Spotmau Suite 2009 with boot CD, does quite a bit on its own.. I have GDATA Boot scan disc...Vortex Admin ERD Commander..Active Kill Disk Boot Disc..and for the ultra paranoid .. the 2 Second wipe unrecoverable DBAN boot disc.. If you look into those you will find I can just about turn your system on its head.....

Of course all of these things can be used in many ways .. including the wrong ones.. so I do recommend password protecting your BIOS settings and settings passwords on all areas that it will allow...and shutting off the Wake-on-Lan feature unless your using it..

EDIT: You should try having a Celeron..yuck

Yeah in fact I actually made one last night...BUT.. There was a reason I never put my stuff on the CD...and it had been so long ago I forgot why.. but mainly speed.. I can access a USB Stick to add anything I want and always be up to date..a writeable media.. The other CD's are already made and will stay that way... The one I made last night won't load Network drivers..says that it is but won't so I have to see what I did or didn't do...worked though all of my customization.. I have t get the right resolution into the menu. and remove the ones too large for the screen..( really causes a problem..LOL) being that your menu sits on the bottom..But yeah I am going to extend it with a few things..Change a few aspects..polish it...I have another one right now that was given to me which has total commander on it.. but I actually use A43..it works great.. but the menu and few other things are a version behind, and the menu looks like XP, with a Linux penguin chasing a butterfly with a flyswatter for the background..The one I made last night seems a little faster..

u are absolutely right,a USB stick version is much better than a PE CD,because it can be updated

periodically.

Gud luck making the ultimate PE
