bruinator
Just curious, does a cop have access to a database where all businesses and homes are located in the town they work in? For instance, if i dont know the name of a business and i told them the type of business i am looking for and told them it was a few doors down from a company i knew the name of? Should they know / have an idea as to what i was talking about? thx
virge
I'm not sure why you would ask a cop where to find a particular business, you are better off asking local residents in that town who live there or even ask the mailman, they know the area better than anyone. Besides, the cop's first instinct is not to help you, but to determine if you are up to no good.

All generalizations fail (as is well known.) Having had a wonderfully helpful experience with a cop (when locals couldn't) in an unfamiliar town, the memory is always so fresh, as all memories of unexpected kindness are, and will remain so. It actually would depend on the size of the town and the cop's normal patrol area. The dispatch center/office has various databases at their disposal but the patrol officer may not have access unless it is programmed into his Mobile Data Terminal, if they are using them. If this was a small town, 100,000 or less he would probably know exactly what you wanted to know. But in cities like San Francisco he would only know if the place you were looking for was in his assigned patrol area. And that would be true of residents as well. People tend to know their own neighborhoods very well but not so much about other areas. 4 hours ago, virge said: Besides, the cop's first instinct is not to help you, but to determine if you are up to no good. He is going to do that by observation whether you ask him any questions or not. And I never met a cop who wouldn't do all he could to help a person, even calling on the radio to see if someone else might know the answer to the question. When answering a question you shouldn't allow your personal likes/dislikes to express themselves in the answer because nobody cares and it doesn't bring any value to the discussion. The cops around here are complete assholes, they treat everyone like shit and pray on out of towners to give out tickets in speed traps. They are the last person i would ever ask for assistance. mikie
Some just sit in the squad cars picking seeds out of the pot they just confiscated - they don't like exploding seeds.
