WinRAR 5.50 Beta 5

Recommended Posts

WinRAR is a powerful archive manager providing complete support for RAR and ZIP archives and is able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z archives. Its RAR format may only take second place for its level of compression – but it is consistently the fastest when it comes to both packing and unpacking files. While RAR files are not native to Windows or Mac, many other compression programs are still capable of unpacking it. WinRAR is available on Windows, OSX, and Linux, despite the name.

Thanks to SalaR for the update.

The Seeker

This is an app worth buying. It's a one man shop that offers a lifetime license. I bought mine back in 2006.

It's still there.

You set it in the Compression options to RAR: Options>Settings>Compression>Create Default.

It seems RAR4 is default for compatibility.

I don't have RAR5 there either. Only RAR4.

And mine is still set to RAR. Is RAR actually RAR5?

By the way.

How does RAR5 compression compare with 7-Zip's 7z compression?

That's why its called beta software it's not a finished product  in the 1st betas view file was missing from the context menu  ..They fixed that now RAR4  is were RAR5 is meant too be ..were it says just RAR is normal RAR ..  :)

I did a few tests, and the best 7z compression still beats the best RAR5 compression.

No big deal. I was just curious.
