I am using Photoshop CS2, which is 32 bit, but my computer is 64 bit. So do I need to download the 32 bit or the 64 bit version of these plugins?

It's based on your Windows, if your Windows is 64bit. Please download 64bit

Link says a free sampler and there was no prompt upon install to install into either Photoshop, PhotoImpact or any other plugin folder.

No, it isn't based on Windows. If his Photoshop is 32bit, he will need the 32bit plugins.

 

A 32bit program cannot load 64bit plugins or DLLs, and vice versa.

I can see the program listed under filters in Photoshop, but the only thing that does is provide a link to open up the program in its own window. I don't think the term "plugin" was very accurate. It's more like Photoshop with filters only.

If I open an image in PhotoImpact and select effect then autofx as a plugin, I can change image, but I get told it is a sampler, then it changes image to what I select, but it feels limited.
