LeetPirate Posted September 2, 2009 Share Posted September 2, 2009 So a typical day in the life of a :pirate: and I am downloading some torrents. I keep adding more to the list till all of a sudden uTorrent tells me Windows has run out of memory. I checked task manager and of course Windows was not out of memory at all, only 31% ram was in use. Double click on the icon in the tray area again and a new error shows up telling me uTorrent is already running but not responding. The only thing different about this Windows installation is I reduced the swap file to 512MB since it does not really need any but I left a small amount in case it wants to use it.Any ideas? HX1 Posted September 2, 2009 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Well my first guess would be that the program error is like the olf NT systems.. out of virtual memory, which is an error that occurs when general CPU load gets too high and basically it takes too long to get a response for the action or routine the program is running. Being that the program is BETA, I would say that they may still have some issues. I would try putting the swap file back like it was...See if that doesn't help then I would see about..adjusting your settings for Disk Cache..it could be a guess as well, but some incompatibilities with the BETA may come when used in conjunction with other cache boosting or changes in how that works normally on a system, since mot testing is probably done on a straight out system..Just a guess..BTW Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Maybe it would be havin somethin.:P that download speed is a slow day, :hehe: ISP throttles during the peak hours.Seeding ratio my butt, all those are public tracker torrents that are seeding. I joined RevTT and hardly anything seeds to them even if I stop every download except the ones on RevTT it does not seed, and if it does, the speed is 0.1KB/s which is useless. Not to mention I downloaded specific files from RevTT as Rock Lee suggested, I pulled the sample video file alone from a bunch of new movie torrents with mega leechers and still it hardly ever seeds. For public torrents I always try to enable the "Initial Seeding" option to help increase the number of seeders with 100% of the parts.As for the problem it has not happened again as yet since I downgraded to the stable v1.8.4 so I am not really worried about it. I will wait and see if anything else happens.As luck would have it, an invite for PreTome is falling into my lap as we speak ;) Hopefully they will care enough to want my files to seed. I could sense that RevTT is gona ban me if I download real files because they look and feel the exact same way as ilovetorrents.com. They are the previous tracker I was using that banned me for low ratio because their files refused to seed but gave me a nice offer to pay them to increase my ratio. :fist: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I do not like being called a leecher.. and sometimes the admin is ridiculous..not mentioning any site in particular.. I was banned once because I uploaded a set using a torrent.. and it did not register for 24 hours, and somehow in that time my ratio went to nothing...and if I stopped a torrent, or paused it.. there records would show nothing.. after the war with the admin and words.. I refused to ever be a part of any site with those little !@#$%^& numbers up there.. If the files are good its shared by all's bandwidth and openly.. most 'responsibles' will seed.... and allow equal up/down.. I do.. I dunno. The whole thing just left a horrible taste in my mouth.. was revolting that I was dong the right thing, with one site error I was eradicated with no way to even attempt to fix the issue..which lead to the WTF which lead to the FU which got me banned for life..The more I am on the net though the less I could care about getting banned, just amazes the !@#$%^& !@#$ out of me sometimes how people think...I never want stuff like that to happen I mean it brings the worst out in people.. funny thing about the site as it were.. it was better later on that I was not there.. but I almost embarrassed myself and the DJ who's set I was helping 'UP'. BLAHH bUhh bLUHh blUHH BLUH bLAH.. aNYWAYZZ..EDIT: I honestly think its an attempt by the sites to make money and use peoples systems as servers..Simple math problem can show you what they are about.. Otherwise it is quite 'useless' if you have a fast upload speed... Not too sure as to the reasoning but that's what is suggested.If anything, WikiI don't bother using it anymore... But don't know anythin about it.What Cultivator said is true but it isn't the only reason to use initial seeding. Here is the short version of what it does, it seeds only unique parts and does not send another part until it receives confirmation that the leecher you sent the one part to has begun seeding that same part. It therefore acts to boost the number of seeders that have 100% of the file parts instead of boosting the number of seeders with partial amounts. To understand how it does all that you have to read a technical wiki.Once you get that concept then you can see that it's not only if you have slow upload, you can use it if the file you are getting has a little number of seeders and you want to try boost that number which will ultimately help you and others download the same torrent in future. Try this, go to advanced options, the place that says [WARNING: Do Not Modify!], and modify the setting called bt.scrape_stopped changing it from false to true. This is the setting for getting the scrape information even when the downloading has stopped.
