Rapidshare Trouble

hey guys

i was trying to download a 837KB file from rapidshare,it gives me an error saying

"Your IP address 221.120.240.54 is already downloading a file. Please wait until the download is completed"(keeps telling to become a premium member)

It repeatedly gives me this error even if i try downloading after 30 minutes, and this is the first i have requested a file in 3 days.

This happens to me very very often,on a lucky day only i am able to download from rapidshare.

What is up with that??any explaination.

Do you have more PCs in your network? Do you have a wireless router/modem? Are you using a proxy? How often does your dynamic IP change? Try www.WhatIsMyIP.com and post what IP it reports.

If you're using a proxy then it's quite understandable since you're sharing the same IP with thousands and thousands of people of which most of the time one is using RS.

@shought

mine is a wired cablenet, they dont give end user routers and theres no proxy in use.

The IP by definition is dynamic,i would think that it changes when i log out.

Inbetween great site " www.WhatIsMyIP.com ",i cheked it out and tried to change my IP,then went to Rapidshare and tried to download, but still it dint work.

I wll try changing it again rite now,and give the final verdict, that if my IP is actually changable....lol..

I am also running ccleaner.

stupid Rapidshare...lol..

it says here on whatsmyisp

If your connection is direct to your computer and your computer gets the public IP and not a router, you can try this:

For Windows 2000, XP, and 2003

1. Click Start

2. Click Run

3. Type in cmd and hit ok

4. Type ipconfig /release and hit enter

5. Click Start, Control Panel, and open Network Connections

6. Find and Right click on the active Local Area Connection and choose Properties

7. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

8. Click on Use the following IP address

9. Enter a false IP like 123.123.123.123

10. Press Tab and the Subnet Mask section will populate with default numbers

11. Hit OK twice

12. Right click the active Local Area Connection again and choose Properties

13. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

14. Choose Obtain an IP address automatically

15. Hit OK twice

16. Go to What Is My IP to see if you have a new IP address

i did that still,my ip wont change, just checked its the same as rapidshare is showing..

it also says this

If the MAC address of your router is 00-11-22-33-44-55 and you connect to your ISP, the DHCP server records your MAC and assigns an IP. If you disconnect from the ISP, you lose your IP address. The next time you connect, the DHCP server sees your MAC, looks to see if it has assigned an IP address to you before. If it has and the lease time has not expired, it will most likely give you the same IP address you had before disconnecting.

this is exactly what my case is...

do i need mac cloning

So your directly plug the cable from your ISP into your PC?

So ISP --> PC? There's nothing in between?

My setup is ISP --> Modem --> Router --> Multiple PCs.

To get another IP just turn off your PC/Router/Modem during the night and turn it back on in the morning, that should give you a new IP... If not then you should unplug your internet cable, change your MAC address and then plug it back in.

Do note this about changing your MAC address:

Most Internet subscriptions allow the customer only a single IP address. The Internet Service Provider (ISP) may assign one static (fixed) IP address to each customer. However, this approach is an inefficient use of IP addresses that are currently in short supply. The ISP more commonly issues each customer dynamic IP address that may change each time the customer connects to the Internet.

ISPs ensure each customer receives only one dynamic address using several methods. Dial-up and many DSL services typically require the customer to log in with a username and password. Cable modem services, on the other hand, do this by registering and tracking the MAC address of the device that connects to the ISP.

The device whose MAC address is monitored by an ISP can be either the cable modem, a broadband router, or the PC that hosts the Internet connection. The customer is free to build a network behind this equipment, but the ISP expects the MAC address to match the registered value at all times.

Whenever a customer replaces that device, however, or changes the network adapter inside it, the MAC address of this new equipment will no longer match the one registered at the ISP. The ISP will often disable the customer's Internet connection for security (and billing) reasons.

All I could think of is that your ISP presents you and your neighbors with the same IP, could you please check which IP it shows in your network settings?

yes it shows 10.0.1.212,but thats not the IP the sites (whatsmy ip and rapidshare) are showing.what the hell

i also found this at the site

If you have a long lease time (explained in this article) on your IP then you won’t be able to change your IP without cloning your MAC address, which I’ll explain later in this article.

What is an IP lease time? IP lease time is the amount of time your ISP determines you’ll be assigned a particular IP address. Some IP lease times are just a few days and other IP lease times could be set for a year or more. This setting is completely up to your ISP.

whatsmyip is showing 221.120.240.54...that means that this is the IP pool and the 10.0.1.212 is actually the public IP i m using to access the internet,or its the other way around....

how to change my MAC card address,i have no router only a pre installed MAC card on my cpu...

Changing your MAC address will only change your PCs IP and therefore won't do any good.

I'll explain:

Your setup is: ISP --> Router(or similar) owned by ISP --> Your PC, neighbors PC, other neighbors PC and so on. The IP address that's visible to the internet is the IP that the ISP provides to the router. The IP address that is shown in your network settings is the IP adress that the ISPs router uses to identify you in the network.

Most likely one of your neighbors is using his internet connection to download some stuff from RapidShare and because of that you're not able to do so because to the internet you're both the same IP.

There's nothing, besides telling your ISP to not be a bunch of cheap bastards, you can do about this. (Forcing your neighbors not to use the internet would be an option, although it'd be kind of dictatorial...)

Making a thread about them wouldn't be such a bad idea, this would be the right forum(Filesharing Chat).

if you have other computers on your network other than yours and they were using rapidshare then you can't use it.all your network goes out to the internet with the same IP.this is called NAT and it is used to save IP address space.

@SokraT: There is no problem when downloadin from these sites.

@shought: I have many of them but I have misplaced the .txt file where I saved them. Searchin the whole PC would take a lot of time. So currently I can only give these sites. But I will take your advice and the thread comin.
