Photoshop CS2 Compatibility

I just recently found out that PS CS2 is free to the public. I'm not sure if that is true or not but I found a serial number on Adobe's website, so I just went with it. I'm not too much into photo editing; the only thing I really do with a picture is add things to make it funny for friends and color adjustments. Since I don't do anything too technical/professionally with it and I didn't like GIMP, I decided to use CS2 since it has the features that I would use. The program installed fine and it seems to be working the way that the newer versions work but I did notice 2 things:

1. Whenever I move a dock over a picture, sometime the graphics from the outline of the dock will get stuck on the picture. I was thinking that in order to fix this, I could just check all of the settings in Compatibility mode so that it would run as if it were on an older version of Windows:

I just don't know which options to use. I thought about checking all of the boxes and running the program in compatibility for XP SP2, but I wasn't sure if this was advised.

2. The other thing I noticed is that the docks are floating freely, whereas in the new versions, they are locked on the side. I'm not too worried about this issue, I just figured I would ask here because I can't quite seem to word it in a way that Google understands. I've looked at all of the options and there doesn't seem to be anything that relates to doing this. I know that you can snap them to the side but I was hoping for a way to lock them "permanently."

I tested yesterday, it's working on Windows 10 x64 (1703 RS2) "Creators Update" with no compatibility settings

But the PS should act the same, right? I was thinking about trying Paint.Net. How does PS CS2 compare to Paint.Net?

I never use Paint.Net so couldn't tell you, but for PS CS2 that was the way it is back then.

I might have to try Paint.Net when I get home. CS2 is kind of bloated with outdated programs too.

Why do you say CS2 is outdated?

It is an industry standard app even though it is old..

Perhaps if you need a simple graphics editor PAINT.NET WOULD DO FOR YOU

Maybe outdated was the wrong word. Will you settle for discontinued? Because the internet says Imageready was discontinued. I just wish that the buttons wouldn't flicker so much. Are there any performance settings that I can adjust to make it more stable?

You dont need compatibility mode for these

Checking all those radio boxes is what is causeing the flickering..

Also you can fix the docks on the programs settings ...

The radio boxes are not checked yet. That's why I made this thread to see if I should check them.

Run DXDIAG

Save All inforrmation and paste it here..

Could be a many things (eg. bad video driver)

A Google search would suggest:

Quote

Change the GPU Drawing Mode to Basic:

  1. In Photoshop, choose Edit > Preferences > Performance.
  2. Select Advanced Settings.
  3. Choose Basic from the Drawing Mode pop-up menu.
  4. Click OK to close the dialog boxes.

I don't see that option in my Preferences. I have the following:

-General

-File Handling

-Display & Cursors

-Transparency & Gamut

-Unit & Rulers

-Guides, Grid, & Slices

-Plug-ins & Scratch Disks

-Memory & Image Cache
