Questions about back up solutions like Acronis!

how does this work exactly, i used one of these back up solutions back in the day but never really got the hang of it.My questions are

1)My OS and installed software are on a SSD now, and i use a external HDD to store things i download etc, only my OS and installations are on the SSD, i want to make a Complete SSD back up on my external drive, so in case if the OS get corrupted somehow i can just put the image of it on the SSD to restore?

2) Say i don't want the image that i save on the external drive to update, i would like the same image i make today available to me even after 10 months, because updates would mean extra space on my external drive which i don't want to spare, is that possible?

3)What if the key to acronis expires/blocked, after 3-4 months, what do i do then, would i still be able to restore the image from my external drive?

4)How would i restore an image if my windows wont load properly, do i need a bootable CD or USB to access the image i have on the external drive to the SSD?Would i just be able to boot with the bootable CD/USB and then access the external drive from there and then restore the image?

5)In case i decide to update the image with the recent window updates and software updates, can i do it periodically manually/automatically, would i be able to do it, and approx how much space i would need for it on the external drive, my current windows installation and miscellaneous software takes up around 20-23 GB 's on my SSD, would i need to allocate a certain amount of space to acronis, and how much should it be considering my windows/software installations  take up around 20-23 GB's.

If somebody would have the time to answer these it would be very kind, me and others like me who don't know how backups works would really appreciate it. it would be like a mini tutorial for newbies!

AOMEI will do this, it has settings to do incremental as well as different compression settings and "Intelligent Sectors" (only backup used sectors of the file system)

dont be afraid, restoring ur OS from a backup is really no big deal. I really like AOMEI and use it alot, never failed me yet! good luck.

I use 3x Imaging software daily + a fourth to ensure I don't need to restore my system any longer than 1 hour ago (AX64 Time Machine - available here)

The other main programs I use are:

1. AOMEI  standard free addition

2. Image for Windows (IFW) - available here with crack or S/N

3. Active Disk Image - available here either as a suit of programs or as Disk Image on its own

All four work for me - that is fact but I use 1 TB Western Digital Blue (E Drive) for backup only - I find 6 days of Images is enough but you can be flexible depending on your OS, how many drives you have and your PC M/C :)

With all of these you will need to burn a recovery Program CD in case your PC will not boot .

Never had to re-install Windows from original CD/DVD install disk  in 5 years :D
