Google Chrome 57.0.2987.110

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. Google Chrome also uses a brand new javascript engine (V8), which is much faster than existing javascript interpreters. This means you can create more complex and more intensive AJAX applications with fewer speed and processing constraints. Finally, Google Chrome is built on top of Blink (WebKit fork), so Google Chrome users will benefit from the CSS3 features being added to Blink (WebKit fork) as those features are released.

Thanks to SalaR and Astron for the update.

If you download  Alternate (offline) installer then it will update itself. If you download Stable x32 or x64 then you need to download it everytime.

If You uses these links, what You get for downloading offline 7x self extracting packages, then is not possible auto updating, because Google Chrome updater is self-standing program and it does not contains in these packages.
If You want auto-update, You must download installer from these sites.

https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html?system=true&standalone=1&platform=win32
https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html?system=true&standalone=1&platform=win64

or use online installer

https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html?platform=win32
https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html?platform=win64

Then it is likely that you have a system problem or you are not removed  the old Chrome properly before installing the new version.
PS this works only when everything is installed correctly.
Ie, must be located in a 64-bit system %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Google\Chrome\Application
There must be also folder %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Google\Common\Google Updater and inside the file GoogleUpdaterService.exe
There is as well as the folder %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Google\Update

If you don't have those folders they're, or they have wrong content, the system will not work.

Once you have used wrong or other version installer, you will need to remove all of those folders as well as any Chrome related registry keys. Then make a restart and then you can install another version.
Use IObit Uninstaller and deep or forced scan after the uninstalling process is completed. (sorry, don't remember haw it was called there - maybe deep, maybe forced or at all something else, You see it yourself)

Added later:

I used the beta version for some time, now came back, using the stable version.
No problems with the automatic update.

open a cmd at C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update and execute GoogleUpdate.exe /RegServer. If that doesn't work then completely remove chrome and reinstall chrome.

That doesn't required for chrome.

I checked and have all the above folders/files mentioned by you in the post....Also i always use REVO UNINSTALLER PRO for uninstalling anything.

Nothing happens in the cmd when i try the above....I also reinstalled chrome but still getting the below error.

An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80004002 -- system level).

  1. What is it and where it comes from.
  2. Which Chrome it installs and why it is better of Chrome normal (genuine) online installer?
  3. Is that your craft, or some unidentified animal skin?
