IrfCore
This isn't news exactly but it wasn't added! Firefox 64bit versionhttp://www.mozilla-x86-64.comI'm on Win7 x64 and for me the pages load a lot faster than with Firefox 32bit.I have tried tweaking FF32, thought always it because of that. But on 100Mbit/100Mbit it should go fast anyways, but it never did at least not like this!If you're on Win x64 system, try it! I noticed the new firefox keeps the add-ons in the profile folder instead of the program folder.Try copying from extensions in program folder to extensions in the profile folder. I recently did a fresh install of Firefox, all my add-ons are in the profile folder, I don't know if it will work!If not, do a fresh install.Backup the old folders, if you regret it! SacredCultivator
Wasn't aware of this.. and hmm I guess I'll give it a go, since I use Win7 x64 as well.
Administrator Lite Posted August 21, 2009 Administrator Share Posted August 21, 2009 Most addons will not work. There is no flash/ shockwave for x64. There is little or no speed difference between x64 and x86 web browsers. Its more of novelty than anything at the moment...Edit: If you disable all your addons for the x86 version it will seem much faster too ;)
SacredCultivator
@Lite: You're correct, I reverted back to 32bit as I didn't want to find the 64-bit plug=ins ><

SacredCultivator
Not testing it, but I got 4GB's, as I could ude 8 but for those RAM sticks, one's defective and can't use 6 due to incompatibility.

LeetPirate
Try using custom builds of Firefox: Linkhmm, "Blazing Fast – Firefox Optimized Distributions" does have a nice sound to it. I can't resist something with that name, I'm going to check it out.Unfortunately I have tried it and it is not any faster than the regular installation. Both instances took around 6 seconds to come up and I only have 8 tabs stored at this time. Maybe it will load faster with zero tabs but I always have multiple tabs saved.I did however find something that works really good. Firefox Preloader loads parts of Mozilla Firefox into memory before it is used to improve the its startup time. It really does work and I will continue using it. RAM is too cheap to pass up a super program like this, especially for a program like FF that is used extremely often. FF loaded in 2 seconds with this :). IrfCore
browser.turbo.enabledboolean: trueHave you tried this in about:config? Also add /Prefetch:1 command to the shortcut! For Win7 users, if you have Firefox pinned to the taskbar, Go to:C:\Users\"user"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBarJust edit the shortcut as in Quick Launch

RobrPatty
This is what I use to manually speed up FF. Makes a big improvementTweaking_firefox.txt
LeetPirate
You have to manually add it!browser.turbo.enabled will not work, mozilla removed the support for the quick launcher a long time ago, hence this setting no longer exists in about:config page. The prefetch parameter is a hoax. Another placebo effect myth tweak. Adding /prefetch:1 does nothing but force Windows to use a different prefetch (.pf) file for prefetching Firefox other then the one it was using. For Firefox it creates a second prefetch file for no reason. This does nothing to improve performance loading Firefox. This will probably just fill up your prefetch folder for no reason :P, besides, Vista/Win7 superfetch is already very good at prefetching. The pipelining tweaks work for browsing, it really does help when you have several tabs stored. The Firefox Preloader program sort of builds on the old concept of the turbo mode and makes it work for current releases. Highly recommended. IrfCore
About prefetch you are right :)But about browser.turbo.enabled I have heard that it uses now multimedia extensions in the CPU (SSE*). Which one I don't know.Just restarted windows, when the RAM buffer disappeared, it was all the same again! Thanks!I'll try the custom builds!I would delete this topic :DIs a custom build of Firefox available in x64? You can check those to see if you find one you like. Also don't worry about the browser.turbo.enabled ;) There is no reference to it in the source code for recent versions, it was used to enable a feature called Quicklaunch in earlier versions so it most likely cannot be using SSE. The turbo mode back then was simply to do what Firefox Preloader does now. I guess people protested back then when FF came with splash screen and quicklauncher, like other annoying software such as Adobe, and the team decided to pull out the feature :D. Atleast somebody decided to build a nice preloader for it, 1 to 2 second load time with the Preloader installed is very good.
IrfCore
The preloader opens a empty window, with nothing to click on, on both 32 and 64 bit firefox v3.5.2.I'll stick to Shiretoko since I have firefox on all the time. If you could recommend a better x64 version, I'll check.I have Inte Q9450 with 8GB RAM.Maybe it's better to set firefox to use more RAM?

Incase you change anything and it gets messed up you can restore it. Do it with firefox closed of course.
