Just do a google search for Ghost in the Shell 1995 Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence Ghost in the Shell 2.0 or even Ghost in the Shell 2017 etc... That means any of the movies or episodes are not directly related to each other in the story(like sequels and prequels) Feels like the same case as the Sherlock Holmes stories, there are numerous movies, old and new, there are various TV series based on it..you know what I'm sayin...
