ESET Smart Security 10.0.390.0

ESET Internet Security offers advanced detection technologies and multi-layered security features. Designed for a low footprint, fast scanning, it packs security features and customization options for consistent and personalized security on- or offline. ESET Internet Security is built on ESET's unique heuristic technology that identifies viruses that have never been seen before. This enables them to protect your computer proactively, in real-time, against new viruses and cyber threats that conventional signature-based antivirus products don't catch. ESET Internet Security has all the same features as ESET NOD32 Antivirus with the addition of parental controls, antispam module, and an intelligent firewall.

Thanks to SalaR for the update.

I'm still a bit perplexed that they don't have changelogs for their latest releases of late. And even if they were BETAS, it isn't mentioned in the page when you download them.

When you right click -> properties and check the details, the File & Product version says: 10.0.386.0, and the digital signatures are a week late (Jan. 31, 2017).  When you install it however, the installation prompt displays the 10.0.390.0 version and after installation, when you check the installed version after reboot.

I dunno if that's oversight not for them to jive, or it's just how they do it.

Anyways, it's currently working fine; just need to restore backup settings to get the exceptions back on track.

1. I was going to uninstall v9 on my laptop.[someone recommended Total Uninstall]

2. When I am installing v10, does the installer provide a chance to input some exclusions? i.e. For TNod, etc.

3. Is it possible to export exclusions and then import them in v10?

1. I was going to uninstall v9 on my laptop.[someone recommended Total Uninstall]
--- In my experience, standard uninstallation procedures for Eset 9 (minus 3rd party uninstaller softwares) has been fine so far in Windows 10 x64. Issues stem usually from some hooking drivers of ESET on the ethernet/wifi drivers in order to integrate their firewall. When that happens, I usually uninstall the ethernet/wifi drivers after uninstalling ESET, and reinstall them again.  I had more issues with Windows 7 though, where an uninstall was needed via their own uninstall tool (found on their website) in safe mode would do the trick.

2. When I am installing v10, does the installer provide a chance to input some exclusions? i.e. For TNod, etc.
--- NO. As far as version 10 is concerned, the installation has several configurable options, such as changing install directory, activating ESET LiveGrid, and activating detection for malicious softwares (or something similar - advanced install options. Deactivate that - since you're here on nsane, it means you've some  installed softwares that'll be flagged with malice, LOL)
Also, in the beginning of install, it will attempt to detect certain programs it doesn't like, like TNod, and will tell you that it has detected such software and will not install until it's been removed - I am not sure how this transition works from ver.9 to ver.10 installations; my experience: ver.10 to ver.10 incremental update, all your custom settings/exclusions/firewall exceptions will be used, but on restart you have to import said configuration settings into ESET again. So there might be compatibility issues with ver. 9 and version 10 for the import/export settings option in that regard.

3. Is it possible to export exclusions and then import them in v10?
--- YES. As stated above. After you have painstakingly created all the exclusions, rules & settings of your ESET, go to SETUP tab -> bottom right you'll see the IMPORT/EXPORT settings option (beside Advanced Setup). The backup options is saved in .XML format - as I said earlier, not sure of compatibility on ESET 9 or earlier exported settings; it's best to start fresh.

So, because this is the first time I have used TNod, the ESET installer will refuse to install if it detects TNod? I will need to remove TNod, copy to a flash drive, and then copy it back after the ESET installation is done?

--- Yes. It seems that ESET was configured to drop the Hammer on TNod as it's currently one of the few things that can circumvent its license protection (esp. if you have it INSTALLED, I'm not sure how it reacts w/ the TNod Portable Version)

You can try (before you restart your system, after installing ESET 10) to set exclusions to wherever you have installed TNod (and all of your cracked softwares) before you restart your system. Right click on the ESET Icon -> Advanced Options -> Antivirus and click on the "Edit" word in the EXCLUSIONS Heading.

In any case, ESET is, in a way, less destructive than other antiviruses as it will only quarantine by default any .exe file it detects as a threat (including TNod * I might be wrong, though). You can always go back to the Quarantine Box and restore those deleted files to the default directories, for as long as you have EXCLUDED those directories from being scanned by ESET - or you'll be playing quarantine & restore with ESET in a continuous loop. (sometimes though, ESET will not restore the file in the original location - I dunno, must be its way to isolate it from the system - know your softwares & where they install themselves).

@Keyser Söze Thx for your help, but, dude, U need to stop using that color  [whatever it is] in your replies. It's almost impossible to read...

@TheEmpathicEar LOL, nice feedback on the font colors. I'm using the dark theme here on nsaneforums, and I switched back to the white theme, and yeah, it stays Antique white. Default color will switch based on theme usage, but not custom colors. Taking note of that.

Does it matter if you are using ESS v9 or v10? I was going to switch from v9 to v10, but not if I can't find a valid license via TNod?

V10 is advanced and really use very less system resources. But the matter is tnod is not working which makes us to abandon eset now so sad..

When I first used TNod Portable, I got a license that was supposed to be good until 6/5/2017. But, just now, I noticed that I could not get a virus definition update. So, the license date was good, but ESET marked it as "Illegal" or "Illegitimate". So, I just ran TNod again, and got a license that is supposed to be good until 3/10/2017 and was able to update.

The question: Are there other methods of getting licenses that will remain active longer? Also, we used to have "PureFix" which has not worked for quite a long time. And, as far as I know, we don't have a "Trial Reset" that works for ESS v9 or v10?

Something has definitely changed - now the best license TNod can download expires on 10/03/2017 and it is a trial license.  I hope there is a fix for this soon.

ESET is blocking all servers with keys and that`s why TNod is having problems to provide new keys.

All keys wont last more than 30 days and all will be considered as Trial keys ,unless you paid.

[I think I remembered something about Import/Export when doing a major version change: v9->v10] Is it better to start completely over when uninstalling v9 and then installing v10 w/o attempting to preserve settings?

Licenses updated. TNod will not fall easily. And to ignore these false messages, there is no problem with the blog or me, only that I have more responsibilities.
