harpua
There is also the new version of TuneUp Utilities that works with W7. I'm using that and W7 Manager. They both seem to be very good apps.
SacredCultivator
I might be a bit bias, but I just don't like the GUI of the new TuneUp Utilities, so I 'gave up' on it. But W7 Manager is definitely a great tool.

Administrator DKT27 Posted November 16, 2009 Administrator Share Posted November 16, 2009 Well I don't have 7, but I do agree with both of you. I made some tweaks with it and trashed it. Useful soft but can be a bit annoyin.
HX1
Have any of you used cFos speed with Windows 7 yet? Curious as to if it works.. and how well.. I think when you install cFos it changes the TCP window size.. I do know that 7 doesn't have the Half-open limit... and there are a few aspects to it that are different.. The only thing I did with the one I worked on was Windows 7 Manager by Yamicsoft.. and WinASO.. I also used O&O Clever Cache on it.. ( hard to tell though with the crappy hardware it was on. did help some though ).. Still haven't figured out why Ultimate Defrag won't do a boot time defrag.. has about 400MB of fragmented MFT.. that I would like to fix.. it will be a while though till I get to it.. even if they fix it in UD 3 or 2010 or w/e.. irefay
"Tick the check box saying "Number of Processors". Now click on the drop down box and select the maximum number of processor cores (might be 2 or more). This tip is complete snake oil doing this changes nothing it's been proven by Microsoft as well as other technical minded people." HX1
You know that is one thing that I have noticed with some software since the release of Vista and with a few others even with XP.. they upgrade and generalize regular settings..which disallows for various things..and it just ruins he usefulness of the program for other types of configurations/uses.. That I wouldn't go for.. though I haven't used TuneUp Utilities.. I know I wouldn't like it..I am sure this makes it easier for some.. and less confusing.. but technically if you are unwilling to learn and persevere to gain knowledge in that area.. a person wouldn't actually have any business messing around with that area..at least not until they are ready for what comes with taking the next step.. harpua
Actually, imo, W7 is pretty well optimized right out of the box. Most of the tweaking I do is limited to customizing context menus and the occasional registry cleaning/defragging, and cleaning up my disks. Nothing particularly fancy, except my "computer" right click context menu:

Patrick
So how many people here are running x64? Do you use 2 codecs, 1 for x86 and 1 for x64?
HX1
@ KotaXor - Good to know.. I pulled back on loading it u with goodies and all of my tools.. but gave the good basic necessities.. guess cFos is on the list next..@Patrick744 - Thats the one I use on this system.. I though this wasn't even in Windows 7 ( half-open Limit ).. guess I will find out.
KotaXor
I, too...read somewhere about Windows 7 (half open limit). Imagine my surprise when I used UniversalTcpipPatch and found that I could patch it to 255 when its default is 10.:fear: From what can be seen...the limit seem to be only 255.:sneaky:
manpe
So W7 has half-open limit? I can swear W7 Manager told me there was none... and also some other tool told me the same. So basically I will need to use this Optimizer, and the limit is actually 10 like always?Patch site saysNotice: The newest Windows Vista/2008 SP2, Windows 7 is unlimited in default
harpua
So how many people here are running x64? Do you use 2 codecs, 1 for x86 and 1 for x64?I'm running x64 and use both x86 and x64 Win7 codecs by Shark007 as he recommends for x64 systems. You need the 32 bit codecs for 32 bit media players and 64 bit codecs for 64 bit media players. His codec packs come with a really useful settings app that enables one to tweak which codecs & splitters get used for what file types.Tip: Since these settings apps are required to be "run as administrator" to make most of their adjustments, you can set the settings app to always run as administrator by right clicking on the .exe, clicking on the compatibility tab and checking the box to always run this file as an administrator. That way you don't have to worry about it again.Tip 2: Before and after tweaking the codecs and splitters, you can check to see what codecs and splitters are actually being used for a particular video file type by rendering any particular video file type in a free app called "GraphStudio" which will give you a graphical diagram of the codecs and splitters being used by your system. This will allow you to easily confirm that the changes you make are in fact taking effect properly. To render a file in Graph Studio, just drag a video file into the app and it will render. KotaXor
Maybe this will throw some light:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/08/how-to-enable-concurrent-half-open-tcp-connect-attempts-limit-in-windows-server-2008-and-vista-sp2-or-windows-7/

But why does Tcpip Patcher say that it's set to 10? Is it a bug or smth? It shows 10 by default if the system is not patched?
HX1
I dunno I set mine to 255.. odd to have the same upper limit as DNS..
KotaXor
I have two pc sharing the same line...I tweak one to 255 and leave the other alone (at 10).When it comes to playing games and torrent dl... the one with 255 grabs all the speed, leave the other lagging. Finally tweak the other pc and well.....everything is now fine.So....I have to assume that there IS a limit of 10 initially.
