[Solved] I need Win7 driver for Radeon X300 video card

Master Blaster

I have a Dell Dimension E510 pc. Operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate (an Upgrade to the box from XP)

The video card is a ATI Radeon X300, ( X300/550/1050)  and I can only find XP/Vista drivers for it.

Does anyone know? or can link me to a Windows 7 driver for this card?

is it possible to modify an older driver? and how?

edit: I tried the Vista driver, it failed install.

Thanks in advance, I know this is a rare question...:/

Assuming the Vista driver doesn't work (it might, have you tried), you can try using DriverMax. It is free and it has never disappointed me, even with the most difficult-to-find drivers.

The vista driver does indeed fail.

Sneaky driver then. Try the other way round then and let me know

Go to device manager and try to update driver from there.

if it not work , please let us know hardware and vendor id of GPU

Edit: Install legacy driver in windows 7, follow this link from technet

You can try  FLEM AMD Radeon Legacy Modder tool Download to see if you can get working  with  Win 7

http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/flem-legacy-modder-tool-download.html

Most XP boxes  were not compatible  with Vista  let alone Windows 7 . I had a newer XP SYX  that was made for people who rather had XP  than Vista it was compatible  with windows 7 but it still was crap when it came to playing  x264 videos and was slow with Windows 7  i ran it for 2 years with Windows 7 tell it blew up and  junked it lol ..

will the free version work? or do i have to buy it, ( not going to happen)

You don't need to buy it. Free version is limited (2 downloads/day), but just install it, search for the driver, install it and then uninstall the program (otherwise it keeps pushing annoying notification).

driver max = fail = found nothing ( except .net 4.6.2 update)

downloading legacy drivers from Jimbojets link ... will post results in a few moments

Thanks Steven, your link may be a last ditch effort

Sudoku = tried that method with the vista driver (days ago) = fail

"best driver is already installed"....grrrrrrrrr

The thing about those driver updater programs  one of my computers  with windows 10 uses a legacy AMD Driver. When Windows 10 1st came out Microsoft gave me the wrong driver so all i I could find was a beta driver that worked for it. Every since TH2 Microsoft has a working legacy driver  with AMD catalyst for windows 10.  I also got the latest  Manjro Linux working with legacy AMD catalyst that was even more tricky than windows  i have to use a old ISO  and update to the latest  and invoke the   catalyst  server before upgrading they have moded drivers for AMD Linux   . If you can't mod a driver or find a driver  for it  using driver updater programs may cause you to have to reformat . Always they give me the wrong driver for AMD things and botch my PC so i just use the one that works from Microsoft.  I have a really old XP   AMD it came with SP1 on it it's the only XP i have left and i cant get nothing to work good on it but XP  , I can get Anti X Debian to run on it but it takes so long to load anything that i just put XP sp3  back on it and just use it offline for retro games and use it as a jukebox it's not safe to use it online really  and i have 3 more PC 2 with windows 10 and one with Windows 7 so i don't need it really. :P

Jimbojet! SUCCESS your link was the winner!

Device MGR = ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series

Driver Date: 2/10/2010

Driver Version: 8.593.100.0

Your driver was CCC version, the previous driver I tried days ago (also 10-2 Legacy  X64 ) was WDM version, which failed install...

I did run Driver Max after installing = "This driver is up to date" ( ya, whatever, LOL)

:DTHANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR! :D and everyone who responded TYVM :D

My favorite app for drivers is Iobit Driver Booster, especially when instaling operating system in a box I am unfamilar with, it finds all the motherboard drivers and has never failed me

HOWEVER I do not rely on it for Video Card drivers, I always go straight to Nvidia / AMD (ATI) for those, because as we all know, GPU drivers require specific installation procedures,

and if removing the old drivers, then I like to use Driver Remover tools to make sure ALL the old bits are gone before updating new ones.

oh, and I NEVER use M$ update for video drivers..or any drivers for that matter... back in the XP days It would always suggest the wrong drivers .heh. stupid microshaft LOL

If you have problems after  you update  it for  widows 7 you can try what this guy did he was able to download the old driver back and get windows 7 working good.

I have a Toshiba satellite M40 and have the same problem described here when installing driver for ATI Radeon Xpress 200 M under windows 7. I installed AMD Catalyst 10.2 legacy driver but had the same problem of generic VGA driver and so the best resolution for my graphic card cannot be displayed. But, then I found a solution. After installed the legacy catalyst driver I went to the video properties and updated the driver manually. Selected the driver in the computer choosing the old driver (that came with the computer disks). After a reboot it is working perfectly! But note that if you try to install this older driver with the original installer you have an error stating that this driver is not supported in windows 7.

Thats the problem I have with Anti X the generic driver works for my XP  but the best resolution for my graphic card cannot be displayed besides its not fast enough for it.

Is you're  resolution  working  right in   X300 with 10.2?  When i i read the specs  X300 SE  the best you could put on it was Vista Home Basic .
