My Windows Media Player 11 is dead, when i double click nothing happens..tried removing..reinstalling nothin...

GHOST IN THE MACHINE

Well it sounds like you have an assortment of oddities going on. Weird things is I had a few files re-appear the other day.. and I had shredded them. Seven passes.. but then I struggled with the ' Did I really do that or what... ' My memory got me on that one.

First question would be have you ever installed any kind of 'Steady State' software. Microsoft's Steady State will protect system settings and soon, Deep Freeze will do the same..Vista will replace files that were removed or anything that sets off flags from shadow copies.. ( that mysteriously fragmented area on your drive that grows steadily ) ... Not for sure about all of the ins and outs.. but it could be a possibility. Were the links to the programs back in your start menu, or did the program files and application data show back up only?

I use a cleanup utility every now and then called Windows Install Clean Up.. from Microsoft Downloads..to clean out all the installation packages that are left on my system..after I clean out something.. I usually go through and delete anything in 'Common', and Application Data that may pertain to the program.. and oddly enough some of those show back up to. I am on Windows XP SP3.. not Vista, and I have disabled recovery options...no System Restore.. So I think so of this trips an alarm in the Windows somewhere..LOL unless someone thought it would funny to see how people react to a file that makes your files show back up..( better than the one that wipes your drive.. LOL )

Windows Media Player .. hmm .. that sounds like you might have something wrong with your registry. Some of the other issues could be related as well...I would do a good Registry Cleaning.. and RegDefrag.. ( I use WinASO Registry Optimizer, and SpyBot Search and Destroy for that currently..) Once you get that done, try to run the program and if that doesn't work go to Microsoft Downloads and get the version of WMP for your system and install again..It should fix the problem..( personally I would wipe WMP Folders out then clean.. )

Stuffit!/RAR issues sounds like the same thing..but it ca also be from a cut connection to a malicious file while downloading as well..

Last but not least make sure you do a full system scan and make sure nothing might be lurking around in your system somewhere. Check C:\WINDOWS folder and system32 folder for anything that looks odd, especially files with really odd names...not like regedit.exe.. but like yyjjjiytj.dll, ini, exe. ( that has no file signature ) Also be looking for Startup DLL's with SpyBot and make sure that there isn't a registry entry for anything related to infection. Better to be safe than sorry or redundantly chasing down a system ghost..

The most important thing to remember to is that installing and un-installing programs, applying patches.. randomly deleting files, using a lot of different drive locations..They all leave issues behind in your registry. When you get a large sized registry...that is heavily fragmented ( same with HD ) you start getting weird, unstable reactions form your system. Even with no other issues...You can think sometimes its the worst but it can be as simple as system maintenance.. So I would check it at least.. and go from that point.

I forgot to mention too, that if you have installed anything recently, especially anything that has a service running.. make sure that it isn't a point of program incompatibility that may be interfering with normal operation.

ok

1. i dont use steady state from microsoft, but am downloading it rite now.yes the links to the programs were back in my in the start menu.Unibue started itself..

2. i m also downloading Windows Install Clean Up

3. After realizing the problem i tried the REGISTRY KIT,but befor that i should mention i used the JV6Power tools and uniblue reg boost(after it showd up).

but i will shortly download the winASO and search and destroy and do another cleanup and registry defrag.i will also download the WMP from microsoft.

Recommend me a good registry cleaner i can try.

4. i did a full scan with malwarebytes it showed 4 keygens(that i have never used or run),so they are not the problem.Wil run ESSET know.and chek the system 32

5. suggest me a good maintanence app.tune up utilities is gud rite

6. stardock v 1.9 is not i think compatible with the perfect unistaller, because it wont save its shortcut and disappears when i run the unistaller.therefore i uninstalled the stardok and then it came back. And stardock wont work the itunes shortcut and the WMP11 shortcut. After installing stardock things started to get wierd,so i wll try to remove it again.

i will report bak

tnx heath

Or ... Trust nobody.. believe in End Point Security ..LOL but make sure you don't get tagged for being delusional and NSANE..LOL

DUDE make sure you read about Steady State before you use it..!!!

EDIT:

You want system boost use eBoostr.. or buy some huge RAM sticks and use Superspeed RAM Disk/SuperCacheII/SuperVolume...WinASO covers all of that for me..but I also have manually optimized my services, and all system settings by hand..WinASO goes into just about every part..( minus what other programs you know I use already and usually thats to have better or more options )..I think you will hit it with SpyBot and WinASO.. Those keygens.. I don't care who's name is on them.. compress and encrypt them.. delete/preferrably shred those files ..

Stardock..is this a cracked/keygen/patch? if so get rid of it.. all you need is a serial. Maybe whats bending you over the fence..unwillingly..LOL.. I have it.. Like to have never found the right one and when I did.. on all of the internet..there was only one that didn't go stupid.

I could be wrong but I don't think Uniblue is a good idea.. I mean some people may use it.. but when it comes time to remove..and I have seen several complaints about it..JV6 Power Tools I will have to look into.. but REALLY when it comes to optimizing your system.. find one that will do only the things that will actually speed up your system and only make changes with it.. You start mixing several of them together and I dunno lets just say I never see it turn out well, plus you waste your time and drive space.. on redundancy thats not getting you anymore than using one of them alone..

Disable the system restore? Actually I don't think it may work but it is good to try it. ;)

Yes and make sure you go ahead and delete all the directories in Program Files, Common, Local Settings > Application Data, Documents and Setting > Application Data, Anything that directly relates to it.. Then it would best to do a quick registry cleaning after.. this will rid any entries to files which are not there. Fully killing the broken install, you also want to make sure your installers are removed with the Windows Installer Clean Up.. Then restart TWICE.. sound stupid but do it anyway.. THEN re-install WMP 11.

Do you have a genuine windows XP? I you don't, I have some tricks to install WMP11 by by passing the genuine validation process.

ok..rite now downloading Winaso @ 1kbps...lol

..should be around 5.93 MB

EDIT: I am interested to see how many invalid entries come out of the first scan...don't worry about doing a reg defrag or a finalized scan until you get your system like you want it.. then just do light maintenance..

@DKT

yes my windows is geniun, and completely up-to-date,updated it sometime last week. And I also have the reg entry to make WMP 11 pass the validation test on non-geniun windows.

@heath

i m downloading from a piratebay VIP(green skull),his username is NoExcuses,been using his uploads for a while.

But the file size is 13.7mb(WinASO Registry Optimizer 4.2 Portable). He might have included extra or two.

ok i wll post the invalid entries

P.S:The download rate is painfully slow(0.7to1 kbps).out with a friend for 1 hour still on 80percent.

Might try updating your tracker.. sometimes they reach that and just stop...I could have uploaded mine somewhere...Basically I use the one from the main site and a serial..I have used it since version 3.2, I validated it then and it has been the same since.. I deny it access out, because it doesn't need it.. I can check for an update myself.. the other part polling for validation/id I don't worry about..

The portable one should only be larger because it has more files inside and no compression..from an installer.

EDIT: You know i the meantime you could download SpyBot Search and Destroy, and get it setup.. Keeps going like it is you could probably get in a scan with it, and use most of the tools that come with it...But go directly to the site.. is Free too..

Good, looks like you have not been cleaning your temp files and privacy data like you should be..

Now I would go to Tools and make sure you run through and find/check each one of those... run them..

ActiveX, BHO, System Internals, Host File, Winsock LSP, Startup.. all of those for definite.. a few un-relative to this problem but while your there.. might as well...

In Startup make sure you recognize or can find, and Identify the files listed.. make sure that they should be there..and don't look suspicious..

You could also immunize your browsers..

84 software locations

cleaned them all up.i wll tel u the result once finished using other options

The same thing happens again?

No I haven't heard back yet. Starting to worry about where he's at...LOL

If he defragged his registry then it would take awhile especially if it was heavily fragmented..

THEN.. he had to reboot.. login to his account load all up then reboot a second time.. then install WMP again.. and go from there.. Plus if he used the Installer remover after all of the registry stuff it can take a little bit to get through..

UNLESS.. it happened before and I don't know about it...

yes evrything is back to normal no more ghost for now.i used all the tools on spybot and WinASO.uninstalled the WMP 11 and deleted eveything related i could find.

except when i try to remove to program file WMP folder,it content wont completely go probably because WMP 9 came with the OS pakage.now should i go to the registry and manualy delete all the WMP entries and force delete the program file WMP folder.

All I can say is you better have a UPS Box ( Uninterpretable Power Supply ) or a laptop with a battery...Sudden shutdown and loss of power can in some cases corrupt files that are in use by the system.. even your MFT... even if your UPS box is only good enough to take you through shut down your better off..

If this folder is in your Program Files.. some of the DLL's may still be in use.. especially if you have tried to open it...More than likely after you remove all the entries with WinASO and SpyBot.. IF you un-installed before all that ( which is what I recommend ) don't clean the registry again.. Just reboot..twice like I said before and attempt the install from the file you downloaded from Microsoft Downloads..

EDIT2: If you un-installed after.. re-clean it, and look for the Installer wit the Windows Installer Clean Up..

EDIT: Depends on rather it is backed up and replaced by your system when you delete or not. In that case leave it alone.. It should be fine..
