straycat19
Wednesday evening a friends wife received a call from a large online retailer's fraud department questioning a purchase she had just made online. She hadn't made one recently and the retailer gave her the last four digits which matched her debit card. She cancelled the purchase. She then went online to her bank account and discovered that it had been emptied. She printed off a copy of all the transactions. When her husband came home that night she informed him. After some searching and fact finding he called a friend about 3:30 a.m. PST Thursday. After talking to him the friend made a couple phone calls. Within three hours all the transactions that had not shipped were cancelled. They also had the address all the shipments were going to...in Chicago, Illinois. At approximately 10 a.m. CST, agents went to the address in Chicago and found it to be the home of a grandmotherly type, who didn't even own a computer. Questioning revealed that her grandson had given her a story that would result in her receiving some packages addressed to a 'girlfriend' and to hold them. They went to the grandson's apartment at approximately 11:15 a.m. CST, where they arrested three individuals and confiscated several computers, cell phones, and printed materials. Later questioning resulted in them giving up the seller, their account information to his website, and other pertinent information. On Nov 5, at approximate 5 a.m. MSK the seller was apprehended with the assistance of local police. Computers and other materials were confiscated. During questioning he also gave up his account information for his website, bitcoin accounts, and websites he had access to on TOR. His website is now being run by legal authorities and websites he had accounts on are being accessed in order to gain more information on prior, present, and future sales and personnel involved in these transactions. There used to be a saying that you can run but you can't hide, but in today's world you can't even run.
