humble3d
Purify Water With the Power of the Sun... Oregon Company Purifies Water With the Power of the Sun The new technology focuses sunlight to kill bacteria and break down contaminants. An Oregon company has developed a way to purify water using nothing more than the power of the sun. The company, Focal Technologies, uses a solar focusing lens to heat a sample of water and break down contaminants such as E. coli and Salmonella. The system, called Ray, uses a large lens that focuses sunlight on a small container. The lens heats the water in the container and also provides a sterilizing dose of UV radiation. According to Focal Technologies, this is sufficient to kill 99 percent of bacteria and break down organic compounds and contaminants like fertilizers. Using solar power to purify water is not new, but most previous solutions are either expensive or small-scale. Ray is the first to provide a cost-effective device that purifies large amounts of water quickly. Ray is lightweight and portable, and requires no external power, making it perfect for remote areas. It's extremely durable and designed to survive in hostile environments. Ray could be used in developing countries, industrial and mining operations, water treatment plants, and agriculture. http://www.digitaljournal.com/life/food/oregon-company-using-solar-technology-to-kill-pathogens-in-water/article/471964#ixzz4GkrmosoF
