Prevent Windows 10 from downloading app updates automatically

Out of the box, Windows 10 is configured to download and install updates for Store games and apps automatically. You might want to stop this and change the operating system's behavior to save your disk space, PC resources and bandwidth so that apps are always updated with your permission and never automatically. Here is how it can be done.

There are a number of ways to prevent Windows 10 from auto-updating or auto-downloading Store apps.  The best way to do it for all users is a simple Registry tweak. Do it as follows:

  1. Open Registry Editor (see how).
  2. Go to the following Registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore

Tip: You can access any desired Registry key with one click. If this key doesn't exist, just create it.

  3. In the right pane, you should create a new 32-bit DWORD value named AutoDownload. Set it to 2 to disable app auto-update. Windows 10 store disable app auto-update
  4. Note: Even if you are running 64-bit Windows you must still create a 32-bit DWORD value.
  5. Restart Windows 10.

Alternatively, you can use Winaero Tweaker. It has an easy to use option to disable automatic app updating. Use the option in it to disable this behavior and prevent Windows 10 from auto-updating or auto-downloading Store apps:

Auto update store apps

Once this is done, you can be rest assured that Windows 10 won't download huge app packages on its own. The only side effect from this change is that you will need to check for app updates manually using the Store app as some apps will get old over time. To enable auto-update again, just delete the mentioned value.

actually automatically updating windows store apps are fine

the thing that you had to focus is the windows update hotfix not the apps on the store :)

Good ! Well , if its good for you then why not for my system ! ( Win10-Pro)

Whats bothering me is the lockscreen , can you still disable it and does your start-menu working well ( Im using Classic-Shell ) ??

Did you encounter negative issues , compared before the update ??

No you cant disable it.. that setting was removed in PRO/Home only thing you can do to get around it fix you're PC to automatically login and that's no good for security.. The start menu  still have a little bug in it here, when you 1st install a new program you cant use the new program from the start menu tell after you reboot  ..Other than that its been OK. It's a bunch of tweaking you need to do  Im sure tuts will come out like this one in the OP its lot of things changed 5000  things changed.
