Foxit Reader 8.0.0.0624

Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size, breezing-fast launch speed and amazingly rich feature set. In the past, you have to download a huge PDF Reader from another software company, go through a lengthy installation process and wait for an annoying splash window to disappear just to open a PDF document. Moreover, if you want to annotate a PDF document, you have to pay US$299 to buy that certain PDF software.

Thanks to Astron for the update.

Couldn't find documentation for this latest version 8. Accesing website shows version 7. What's new about it? I observed that actually size of setup file, 45 Mb, is smaller then that of version 7, about 60 Mb.

By the way, looks we may expect a version 8 for Foxit PhantomPDF. Hope they don't pretend to add additional megabytes, to grow up tothe XXL size of "bloated big bro" Adobe Acrobat.

PD EDITED:

Actually Foxit PhantomPDF 8 was posted just some minutes ago by Kumusta

Tried it, un-installed it, re-installed v7.

It includes some kind of cloud PDF connect service which keep popping up and crashing the app.

Guess you mean something called ConnectedPDF. Even if it haven't crashed the application, actually it looks rather annoying and I feel I can live without it. Even if I don't mean to use Foxit Reader, because I prefer Foxit PhantomPDF Business, the full application, I tested this app, and remover all files and folesr related to Conected PDF. Then checked out in Preferences anything relates to this stuff, including something called "Advertisement". After this, Foxit stopped nagging about this ConnectedPDF. So, no need to roll back to previous version.

"1. ConnectedPDF - More than PDF

ConnectedPDF extends the ISO PDF standard to allow each PDF to carry an identity assigned by a cloud service, and allows document tracking and sharing no matter where a document goes or how many distributions and modifications are done to it.

ConnectPDF features are accessed via the Connect tab on the Reader ribbon."

You must mean the popup in the middle of the screen: better to disable that one via Preferences: Connected PDF section.

The small popup in the upper-right which shows for about 3-5 seconds upon startup cannot be disabled that I've found. There is a "Hide" link in it, but it's not permanent.

Update: Found a way via Help/Foxit Plugins. Disable the two ConnectedPDF Plugins there.

I just hope they restored the classic interface! (bad news: they didn't)

Users have complained a lot about the crappy ribbon interface.

to disable the connected crap, go to HELP-->plugins. disable all relating to cloud/connected crap and the account management.

I don't see that, but I could have sworn that it was still in v7, wasn't it?  I remember accidentally getting into non-ribbon mode and then struggling to get it back. Maybe it was v6. Whatever the first version was that had the ribbon, I know for sure that one had the ability to switch between the two.

On another subject, does anyone remember the zoom controls that used to pop up at the bottom of a page when you hovered over it?  It also included which page you were on and showed total pages. That stopped displaying for me some months ago, and it's not back in this version. Did they remove that or is it a very well-hidden setting?  I realize that you can do it via the keyboard or the ribbon, but I liked it where it was.

just disable all connected/cloud crap and account management plugins and you're good to go.

What the hell where they thinking adding all this useless annoying junk? they surely DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT WHAT USERS WANT. Users have been complaining A LOT about the BS ribbon interface and they still keep it.

You might wanna disable the useless "foxit reader service" as well. It's related to the "connectedPDF" crap. Safe to disable (tested).

For me foxit run fast and with one firewall alert, I just deleted the extra connected stuffs:
1. delete foxitreaderservice: run CMD with adim right
    sc stop foxtreaderservice
    sc delete foxtreaderservice

2. Delete cloud/connected/browser plugins:

I wonder why that MSI version is more than 2x the size of the EXE version?  It's certainly not because of the minor version difference.
