HX1
Okay so I took quite a bit of time and installed Linux Debian as a VB.. Didn't try to boot into it ( for a long time ) until recently because I tried to install on an old laptop and had some strange video issues ( any help on that would be appreciated as well ) - anyway.. For whatever reason I cannot remember my password.. It shows one account on boot with my first and last name.. UPDATE: I tried using the first name only on the account and it went through the process but stated '... passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged I have found tutorials on how to reset the root passwd on the box but I cannot find a method to reset a user. When I enter "passwd myaccountnamehere" it simply list commands afterwards instead of asking for the new passwd. At that point I am guessing that it is actually under ( my account ) another name and this is the full name of the account when I installed. I can get it to try to login under admin.. but the password did not work... It now says that admin doesn't exist.. I am thinking I need to edit the boot differently So I am looking to find a way to fix this without reinstalling the whole thing all over and hopefully use the account in which I worked on.. Any help is appreciated...
HX1
SOLVED This method worked.. Hitting 'e' at GRUB Find 'ro quiet' Change to 'rw -o init=/bin/bash' Press CTRL+X ..after load.. passwd youraccountname Enter new password ( will not show typing ) Verify Type 'reboot -f' Had to take bits from three different tutorials and put them together.. some of which I could not find today but had seen yesterday... Anyway, I'm in...
