i think you are asking about this

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domobile.eshare&hl=en

i am using it on my android tv box

um... no. it runs an ftp server (i can already do this) and...yes, in theory i could map it as a network drive in windows, but that's not quite what i'm looking for. you shouldn't need to run an ftp server 24/7 to share a folder over LAN

Basically all these kind of apps run smb services on android in order to share the files over a port (ftp, upnp etc) so for sharing you must start that service in order to share your files between pc and android, with out service you can't . also you have to set permissions for folder and file because android use linux kernel means it is half or more than half linux.

So my conclusion is you must install an app and set you parameters to do so.

  • 1 month later...

thanks for the solution! I have previously used the Solid Explorer's function to share the files over FTP, but I will try it your way now ;)
