bruinator
i am trying to install a certain driver for my modem but it keeps on installing the latest one which i do not want. When I select update driver, browse my computer for driver software and then browse for it, it does not list it on my desktop. What do i need to do to get it to use that driver? thx
A.lemane
uninstall it manually and stop windows update from forcing drivers
Chancer
And whatever you do - avoid so called driver update programs!! Just out of interest - why do you not want the latest?
Skunk1966
Quote Just out of interest - why do you not want the latest? lots of times the latest drivers aren't the best ones available so maybe that's the case here

Sylence
you use dial up modem and those modems are usually plug and play if they're connected using USB. last time I was searching for a software to use them as land line phones I failed

Of course modems are still there, but never dialup and only one side with normal Ethernet cable and the other side Cable/DSL.

Anyway... But modern modems never need any drivers and totally independent. So what bruinator tries to use must be something very ancient.

I am using something before pre-historic times. I might be mistaken but i think dinosaurs might of been around but i am not positive. The software was developed way back in 2004, before air or dirt. But about the drivers forget the number version! The original pre-historic drivers usually would not work anymore, because now all are usually Windows XP or newer, 64-Bit etc. So if Windows gives you automatically the best compatible driver for this then you can trust it, usually already upgraded to newer OS but not comparable the version numbers.
