bruinator
Hi, As some of you know, my pc was built by me and is only 2 months old. I just noticed when i right clicked on this pc, selected properties, I noticed under installed RAM listed 4GB. When I ran speccy it said I had 4gbin one slot. I have 2 sticks totaling 8GB. I should be seeing 8GB on both, right? I bought it from amazon and 30 days has passed so I assume I can not call them for a replacement, right? If that is the case, do I need to call GSkill for a replacement? I tried slots 1 and 3 and only 1 stick was recognized and the same with 2 and 4 so I assume one stick is bad? Correct? Plz let me know. thx
davendranath
Please don't be so impatient. Please clean the yellow colour points of the ram with a rubber/eraser gently and thoroughly and also clean the slots with a brush and high volume air flow from mouth. Use one Ram at a time. First verify which slot and which ram is functioning by fixing only one RAM in first slot and on the PC/laptop. If if boots then view properties as to how much RAM is shown. Put a small mark on this RAM stating as OK Next use the same RAM on slot 2 and repeat the process. Similarly put the RAM in third slop and repeat the process. Repeat the same process now with the second RAM and come to conclusive results as to which RAM is functioning and which is dead
Israeli_Eagle
Most probably correct and one DIMM is damaged. That can happen sometimes and usually Amazon will send you a new one very fast, but better change then the whole set.

Administrator DKT27 Posted June 13, 2016 Administrator Share Posted June 13, 2016 First go through what has been posted above. It can be faulty RAM or RAM slot in motherboard. As for RAM warranty, most RAM makers, including yours, support Limited Lifetime Warranty, so you are covered there. Read more about it here. To file for replacement, here is the form for it. But again, you have to check everything mentioned above and be sure which one of the RAM is not working properly and such.
jbleck
it can also be a maximum capacity of 4 GB RAM supported by your motherboard... i don't think this is the case though if yours is new.
