Samurai
I've noticed this myself, and no matter what I've tried with WinRAR it won't seem to open 7z files, so I'm going to have to do the same.Sucks, but I guess it needs to be done as some releasers or whoever pack them use 7z and only 7z. Guest elc0173
i have both on my comp for this reason.... i dont think you should feel like you 'forced' to use 7zip, it is a good prog to have....
InfernoSB
7zip is by far better than WinRAR. Better compression and the likes.
Unbekannt
7zip is good indeed. But if you want extreme compression, I recommend WinUHA and KGB Archiver. :)

I wonder if 7zip has improved its compression ability since then. They are still an on going project. As with KGB Archive, sounds like some secret russian project ;)http://www.icpnet.pl/~tomekpawlak/kgb/en/download.php <-- KGB Archiver v1.1.1.18 [Date N/A]http://www.klaimsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26 <-- WinUHA v2.0 RC1 [2005.02.27]http://www.7-zip.org/download.html <-- 7zip v4.32 [2005-12-09] & v4.33 Beta [2006-02-05]
Guest Nebs
KGB seems like an really excellent compressor.Apparently managed to compress one 440mb file into just 1.47mb. Beta Office 2006 was in question I think. But long time for decompressing.
nsane
it's because it uses a PPM algo for compression (7zip's PPMd algo is the same way), you should be able to speed it up a bit by changing the process priority to highest/realtime (wont be by much tho) ;)
