sanjoa
Hi, guys! How are ya? I'm trying to upgrade my mom's laptop to Windows 8.1 but when I try to download the update it says, Windows this app has not been installed-see details. It's Windows 8 installation is up-to-date and it has an original license (WIndows 8 single language). What should I do?
vissha
First check if the required updates are there, mainly these: KB2871389 - Update is available that prepares Windows 8 and Windows RT-based computers for the update to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT KB2885699 - Update for getting frequent notification for upgrading to Windows 8.1 KB2957026 - Update for Windows 8.1 Upgrade notification in Windows 8 and Windows RT If not, check for updates and install it or download and install manually. If it is there, then did you try rebooting and then tried to upgrade? Many got this issue but after one or several retry, it got installed.Note: Never download updates related to Windows 10/Telemetry. Try resetting Windows Store: Win+R key and Run "wsreset.exe". It should most probably fix. Try the troubleshooter: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=395014 If the problem persists, change Windows Update to never check for updates, then restart the laptop. Then change back to check for updates but let me choose to d/w and install. Now, install any remaining updates and then open Windows Store and try to upgrade. I'll check the following updates. I did reset store and also delete SoftwareDistribution folder.
sanjoa
KB2885699 says it's not applicable to my laptop. KB2957026 it is already installed on system. Troubleshooter says I need to run an admistrator account, but there's no account than my mother's (local account - administrator).
Recruit
Why don't you download the original iso with Win 8.1 ? You can mount the iso, or extract files and run the setup then. Even and with " Run as admin "......

More than that all compatible apps. will be kept on a new os installed. Nor even old folder with windows will not be deleted , you will work a lot in order to delete it with setting the new owner rights for it...... To upgrade does not mean to format it...... VileTouch
iirc you can no longer update from 8 to 8.1 through windows update your only option is to install 8.1 from an iso over the old one...but if you're going to do that, you might as well updategrade to windows

Most Clever Thoughtful People know Windows 10 is the Garbage of Microsoft's History compared to Older versions including 8/8.1! & Microsoft is one of the Major Garbage of this Century! Hence, please don't take the thread to different topic/query. On 5/28/2016 at 9:30 PM, sanjoa said: Have you upgraded 8 to 8.1? Did you use 8.1 over 8 or did you continue with Store update? If your problem is solved, others who are trying to help can ease from this thread. Also, it'll stop spam comparing Win8/8.1 with 10.
