Netflix today launched a new internet speed testing service called Fast.com. With the new service it’s possible to test the speed of both mobile and broadband connections anywhere in the world.

The site is very simple, as soon as you load the page the test starts. The service is powered by Netflix servers and results should be comparable to other services, of which Netflix itself explicitly mentions Ookla’s Speedtest.net.

In several quick and unreliable tests we did, there wasn’t much of a match between Netflix’s Fast.com and Ookla’s Speedtest. While Fast.com reported 29 Mbps, Speedtest.net reported 49.20 Mbps as download speed.

The consumer speed test is different than the Netflix ISP Speed Index. Fast.com measures personal internet connections at any given time, while Netflix’s speed index measures average monthly speeds of actual Netflix streams during prime time hours.

I'm getting 25 Mbps on Fast.com - 25.22 Mbps on Speedtest.net.  That's pretty close.

If you guys think you have it slow, Frontier is the slowest out there 3.1 mbps is what they call there fastest. Plus they just bought out Verizon and got all

kinds of stuff messed up. Customers that were originally Frontiers were lost and told they were not part of there system.

If i could get a fast connection it would be nice, but with where i live, there is no choice.
