Rufus is a utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.), you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed, you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS, or you want to run a low-level utility. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! With Rufus you can: Format USB and Virtual HD drives to FAT/FAT32/NTFS/UDF/exFAT/ReFS, Create DOS bootable USB drives, Create BIOS or UEFI NTFS bootable drives, Create bootable drives from bootable ISOs and bootable disk images, including compressed ones, Create Windows To Go drives and Perform bad blocks checks, including detection of "fake" flash drives. Rufus features Modern and familiar UI, with more than 35 languages. All this in a Small footprint, Fast, No installation required, Portable, Open Source, 100% Free Software.

Thanks to ARMOUR for the update.

There is quite a bit of talk about a Rufus installer in this thread.

I thought there wasn't such a thing as a Rufus installer. Only standalone or portable with the portable having the letter 'p', thus creating an INI file.

Have I missed something?

Good question. When I go to the downloads section of the homepage, it lists three downloads for version 2.9 but two of those are identical, both being the standalone file and the third download being the portable version you mentioned.

There are only 2 versions.

If you notice that rufus.exe has the words "(Same as rufus-2.9.exe)" in brackets.

And the other one is the portable.

There are NO installers as it doesn't need one.

PS: (Not sure why the author decided to link to 2 exact files with different files names.)

I know, that's what I said. There are three downloads, two are the same thing and one is the portable. I said that in my previous post.

I was pointing out that you are right to wonder about this "installer" because it's not listed on the developers website.

And I also agree with you.

The others need to edit their posts.
