mona
Sometimes I can notice something is being downloaded to my computer I would like to gain more control over data being downloaded to and uploaded from my desktop. Windows Update and my security suite update activity is pretty easy detectable. But from time to time there are occurring some downloads/uploads of unknown (to me) origin. How can I learn which program (sometimes it's OS) is responsible for currently ongoing internet activity ?

Sylence
You can use Fiddler, easier to use than Wireshark yet very comprehensive. after installing it enable loopback utility inside the program so that you can see the store apps traffic too. also enable HTTPS decryption, it needs you to install Fiddler's certificate on your system, then you'll be able to see HTTPS traffic as well. after that you'll see all the incoming/outgoing traffics for your system. hope that helps

Marcus Thunder
I use NetLimiter it is very simple and you can limit block or kill connections that you don't want. You can view incoming and outcoming connections and ip address. If you want FIX(Cure or Medicine) , search netlimiter in 4shared.

You've just received your first "Like / Thanks" from me. Hope you gonna get many more of them in the days and months too come. I'm currently testing all programs proposed above. Will add Netlimiter to the list as well. Guys, thank you all for help.
Maxhedroom
If you use Norton, you can make it notify and ask permission for apps to use the internet.
ashraf50
I tried all programs and GLASSWIRE is the best specially when it comes to notify you about programs doing update and it is so easy to block them with the program firewall without affecting or disabling your antivirus And I think you should delete other programs like Netlimiter so the program work without problems https://www.glasswire.com/
