mikiki Posted March 26, 2016 Share Posted March 26, 2016 I haven't tried suggested patches on v7.44 (will do in a minute) but let me tell you something from past experience, I haven't seen *proper* patch or cracked exe in a long while. Not xenocoder's patch, not TE's cracked exe, not some other exes. What happens is they all seem to work but then after a while (maybe couple of hours maybe less) and restarting client, some cracks / patches ask for registration again (which passes again but it is annoying). Some, like TE's cracked exe seem to work good for weeks or longer, but sometimes (and this goes for other cracked exes too) mirc client pops up my firewall for trying to connect to IPs (usually some IPs in Amsterdam for me) for no reason. There is only one connection to be established and that is to irc server. In the case of TE's cracked exe, after a while (could be weeks, could be months, I haven't figured out pattern or reason why) you might have the misfortune of your mirc.ini completely resetting! So advice for all people out there back up your mirc.ini if you spent a lot of time setting mirc how you like it. I am 100% convinced these are *not* coincidences and are deliberate behaviors. Now, why no team has done really proper crack in a while remains a mystery. Either Khaled is very good at planting anti-crack annoyances or there is something else at play. EDIT: Baltagy's portable EXE made with Turbo Studio is prompting my Comodo to report Backdoor.Win32.DarkKomet.G. and I can't get it to run in Comodo's sandbox either, I get this error . This is done via https and it seems to be able to tunnel through firewalls very well... I dont consider it to be a serious issue, though., only a bit annoying. Baltagy´s previous release (of v 7.43) used another software to make Mirc portable and there was no such issue. Another point is that Mirc itself really LOVES to phone home, e.g. every time you open the 'about' window it tries to connect to 2 mirc servers which inform the author of the licence status of the program. You can block those 2 IPs easily in your firewall, though. And next point: It´s true, all cracks after the ones 'Team EAT' did, have been a bit buggy as they have ignored the phone home capabilities of Mirc. I'm aware of mirc phoning home on 'about' window, I have firewall setup to popup on any outbound connection so it's easy for me to block it. But as I said in my previous post, even TE patched exe has problems after a while (lasts longer than other cracks/patches) like out of blue trying to establish connection (to Amsterdam for me, happened after weeks of using it without issues - so must be hard to debug, or perhaps even trojan) and I have had multiple times already mirc.ini reset (this is even rarer, happened after many months of use, but still happened multiple times so likelihood something is wrong with EXE is very high rather than being something else). Sometimes I get a feeling like some old and established devs (like Khaled) have connections to the scene and ask them to deliberately not release propers, or he is really a genius at coding annoyances. Which is more likely I don't know. Regarding Baltagy's portable exe phoning home, I have a security rule I hold on to -- no unknown and unnecessary connections, I don't care how benign they seem, so that is a big no-no for me in that release. Yes, there´s the nag screen but if you have the patience to wait a few seconds, you can use Mirc indefinitely and without all the problems those half baked solutions bring with them. Regarding hosts file that URET patch added these two lines to hosts file: 127.0.0.1 www.mirc.com 127.0.0.1 www.mirc.co.uk I'm gonna test that URET patch and see how it goes. EDIT: URET patch didn't work it failed to validate license (even with patched hosts file but I have firewall prompting on any connection anyways so that's not it). Plus that patch creates some small loader that loads mircd.exe and has its own txt file with serial in the folder, don't like that type of patching. Gonna try that suggested patch from Armour's post. EDIT 2: After about half an hour of using mirc patched with that patcher from Armour's link mirc.exe prompts my firewall to connect to 2 IPs: 23.42.27.27 and 23.42.21.163. Any idea what would that be about? I'm connected to only one irc server using SSL connection. Why would out of blue mirc.exe try to connect to those 2 addresses? Also checking "about" screen after about 1 hour shows mirc to be unregistered and I have to enter details again. Same story as with earlier versions for me. Most of these cracks (that is: their basis) are very old and the author of Mirc is very active in implementing triggers all over his software and with every new version he releases. But the cracks simply ignore most of that ! They only see that it´s activated for the actual moment and then they rush to release it. AFAIK these guys are in it for the reputation and sharing of knowledge, not for direct selling and profit. They are smart and put a lot of effort into testing out their releases. Just not in the case with mirc it seems. It is what it is. I'm not complaining because I feel entitled to quality releases I am merely discussing my observations I picked up over long periods of time. My hope is that interested and capable folks just dig a little deeper into this obviously tricky little software. Using Mirc uncracked or using an older version are still viable options. I used the same blacklisted key for years by just updateing a portable install overtop on the same portable HHD as long as i keep it on that same HHD . The problem with cracks it never really registers the program since they changed it years ago with internet check it only fools the server into thinking its registered . mikiki Posted March 29, 2016 Share Posted March 29, 2016 I have investigated this further and yup what I suspected is true. Basically, blocking any connection other than irc server eventually invalidates license of mirc. This is the culprit of all the patches that I can say with greater confidence after this little test I did. What happens is mirc is patched and I can register with any serial. It will stay registered until mirc decides to check these 2 IPs 23.42.27.27 and 23.42.21.163. Since I block them, mirc then invalidates license as soon as first ip was blocked. I was double checking about window right before block and after block and sure enough it was invalidated after. I guess, no patch so far patched that part of the code. It could be a form of monitoring how many patched mirc clients are out there. Will test this out next time these IPs pop up in my firewall just to see what happens if I let these 2 IPs connect. I had for 3 days installed this *malware* keylogger DarkComet logging anything I type. It was very chilling when I just figured it out and read the logs saved on my disk.
