SnakeMasteR

It's called normalization, Audacity is free and has lots of other Effects in regard to Volume besides that.

mp3 file size depends on kbps

64kbps low quality and low size

128kbps medium

320 kbps high quality  and high size

MP3Gain - non-destructive, no quality loss

This is the absolute best if you do not want to lose quality by re-encoding the waveform of your MP3.

Two problems:

1. MP3Gain adjusts the Replaygain value. Not all players use the Replaygain value.

2. MP3Gain stores "Analysis" and "Undo" information in special tags inside the mp3 file itself. (http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/faq.php)  Some older players will not read the tags correctly.
