Is ‘The Martian’ the first Ultra HD Blu-ray rip ever released and is AACS 2.0 cracked already?

The release group TrollUHD appears to be first to release an Ultra HD Blu-ray rip. The release “The Martian (2015) 2160p Ultra HD Blu-ray DTS-HD MA 7.1 x264-TrollUHD.mkv” is 48.2 GiB (52GB) big and x264 encoded. Despite the release group name ‘TrollUHD’ we received the first reports that the rip is real but we aren’t 100% sure. The release hasn’t made it to the popular torrent sites The Piratebay and KickAss Torrents yet.

The Martian is a science fiction movie released in 2015 and has not been recorded in 4K. The movie is upscaled and users report the image quality isn’t always as great as expected. If our sources are correct and the release is real, then this also means the AACS 2.0 protection on the Ultra HD Blu-ray discs  of the Martian has been cracked.

TrollUHD isn’t new to the scene, the group was also responsible for the first 4K Amazon and Netflix releases that appeared on torrent sites. A group called TrollHD, possible the predecessor of the group, also made many releases.

It’s also possible the release is fake and is an upscaled Blu-ray release by a someone who think he’s funny.

The big "Chinese" groups use HARDWARE to rip the BR, so no amount of protection will prevent them from recording and encoding the audio/video streams. If your BD player can play the film, their hardware can rip it. The "custom" hardware probably cost a LOT, but is offset by the massive amount of pirate DVDs they sell.

I have no idea if the "Chinese" groups are really "Chinese", we call them that in Brazil because they are cheap   ..... they might be from any country that is immune from USA "laws".

If it can be played it can be ripped.

At some point the information has to be decrypted and decoded, even if it's a re-encode grabbed one frame at a time it's still going to be a better source than regular 1080p.

who the fuck needs 2160p ?

unless you have a 100" TV, 2160p doesn't make any sense

You really need to get a clue, the difference is clearly visible for anyone with a set of working eyes and a functional brain.

If you have the hardware, you might as well use it. Besides it will make the 1080p transcodes better quality as well so why complain.

People say the same stuff about 24bit lossless audio, yes they are right you will barely see any difference but that's not the point there are other advantages not everyone wants but some do, besides the h.265 codec has better colour reproduction so that's a plus point at any resolution.

the hardware may be simple as an hdmi splitter,   there was one model who was not blocking any hdcp protection  ...  was sold on ebay for 20$     dissapeared in a flash, could not get my hand on it.

4k is already yesterdays  news soon to be replaced with 8k  so 4k is not even bleeding edge anymore. will 4k ever become mainstream  for pirates I think not  . The most popular files on internet are  the smaller ones and its always been that way . 1080p has been around for years but it was not tell yify came along and started ripping it small that they got lots of downloads . Before this people just mostly downloaded stranded def files mostly. Always big releases lose its seeds quick ,

1. They take lots of storage . Most movies are not worth keeping no ways.

2. Not every one has great internet to download or stream huge releases .

3. You got too  go out and buy  a TV or monitor and other stuff

4. No one cares about being able to see  every little hair and mole on person in a movie you're just going delete after you watch .

5. Most Laptops are 1366x768  this why 720p is still popular and 1366x768 look much better than a small 5" phone screen with 1080p .

720p vs. 1080p vs. 4K resolution: Does it really make a difference?

Quote

As Carlton Bale explains in helpful a blog post, “the screen must be quite large and you must sit fairly close” to detect the added resolution of a 4K display over a 1080p display. 8.3 million pixels (4K) vs. 2.1 million pixels (1080p) might sound like big gap, but considering the fact that “a person with 20/20 vision can resolve 60 pixels per degree,” most viewers won’t see the difference.

Research shows that the average viewer sits nine feet away from the television, but in order to fully experience 4K resolution on a massive 84-inch display, you’ll need to sit 5.5 feet or closer to your TV.

Its not worth going out wasting  my money on my eyes are not that great no how.

That quote is the biggest load of shit ever. My vision is far from perfect and I could resolve an 8MP image over 1MP image on a 65" at about 7.5 feet away EASILY.
If you need to be 5 feet away from an 84" screen to see 4K.. you have major eyesight/brain problems.

BTW I work in a retail store and we have 4K content running on TV's all day, seriously if you believe that shit above go into your nearest retail store and get them

to demonstrate 4K content so you can remove yourself from a sea of ignorance.

For sure this release is not ripped off directly from the BD disc. It's probably a legit release but was recorded or captured through some kinda HDR capable of 4k.

if the protection is broken we shall see many 4k releases as they become available in March.

This explains why you always act if everyone is interested in something that  you must go out and spend money on i use to work in a store too and seen sales sale people stuff they didn't want even and they bring it back   . Most people who fileshare could care less about all this.

TrollUHD release a lot transfers from Netfilx  and Amazon  2160p WEB-DL (4k)  and most are around the same size as op says I dont think its real Blu-ray  just a recording of the Blu-ray if its done from Blu-ray at all using the same tech they use to do Netfilx  and Amazon . TrollUHD  didn't crack 4k they use 4K HDMI

Its no secret how TrollUHD is doing this any longer ether the use HDfury 4K HDMI  to copy it  and you can play 4k on a unprotected 4k screen.

Back in like 2012-2013  P2P was full  of fake Blu-ray  that was nothing but  Web-DL upscaled video with  AC3 audio  upscaled to DTS. These fakes came out almost every time before  the real untouched BD  did.

Hey guys. Can you see a difference? I know it's hard but please have a good look and if you can see a difference please inform he who has functional brain.

I'm not denying 4K will look better, but these tests are misleading as all shit.

They did those and would show 720p vs 1080p and 720p would look unimaginably terrible while 1080p looked flawless. Now they make 1080p look like video from some broken TV from the early 90s.

This doesn't really mirror real world at all. They went out of their way to set settings until 1080p choked out.

There is also a point where the human eye just will not be able to notice the difference, despite the dick waving contest between smartphone makers trying to find out who can first cram an 8K resolution into a 5 inch display.

Most modern movies video quality  is really nice  from a 1080p master ..Only were 4k comes into play would be old movies were the 1080p master was not good then a 4k remaster would will improve it . whats good quality  is good quality regardless of the res. I dont like looking at screen caps other just to make sure it was done right and they can misleading and Photoshopped . I rather have real video samples  than screen caps.
