Sylence
Where is the FPKI root certificate now in Windows 10? couldn't find it in certificate manager. Quote the FPKI root CA, under explicit and full control of the US government. Windows already trusts it by default. it means that the US government could technically emit a fake certificate for any SSL site that you are browsing -- but with a certificate chain that would point back to the US government. it is merged with other CAs like Verisign or Geotrust ? straycat19
With the transition to https the US PKI Office would need to obtain a different certificate which would require years for the certificate to be distributed. Therefore their only alternative was to use a cross signature from a root that was already trusted throughout the world. Which one they decided to use is not for public release.
