Adblock Plus extension for Microsoft Edge is "coming soon"

Microsoft had originally planned to add extension support to its Edge browser in Windows 10 this year, but in October, it revealed that users would instead have to wait until sometime in 2016. However, yesterday, a page was spotted on Microsoft's developer resources site declaring that "Extensions are here!", and while that page has since been removed, it's fuelled suspicions that the arrival of the new feature may not be too far off.

It certainly looks like those suspicions were correct - as a hugely popular adblocking extension has now confirmed that it is making preparations to support Edge.

Already available for other leading browsers - including Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Microsoft's own Internet Explorer - Adblock Plus now says that its extension is "coming soon" for Edge.

There's no indication of just how soon it will arrive, though - apart from including the same blurb it uses for other browser versions, the page only states: "Please check back later for a version of Adblock Plus for Microsoft Edge."

Other extensions that are apparently in development for Edge - according to the page that Microsoft has since removed - include Pinterest and the Reddit Enhancement Suite. But with over 110 million devices now running Windows 10, each of them including Microsoft Edge, it seems likely that the list will grow fairly quickly once extensions support finally arrives.

Neowin also offers subscriptions which remove advertising without the need for extra software. Source: AdBlock Plus via @gus33000 / @h0x0d

For people using Edge, Microsoft  may have more to do.

In Firefox I found ABP lead to a crippled browser experience, at least for the effort I was willing to put in.

Simple and effective (talking FF) is: Pop-up Controller
With Pop-up Controller disabled, some well known domains can be taken care of in the background with: Bluhell Firewall
And for users who want to play around with pop ups, there is: uBlock Origin

Can you demonstrate with examples?

Nope. I am not going back to it ever. But if it has improved, I wish it well.

. . . . . . . . suspected as much.

FYI, it has not only improved in leaps and bounds — has continued to dominate the ad. blocking scene. Let me know if we can have a showdown between your uBlock and my Adblock Plus (should be an exciting weekend.) 6HUIPBa.gif

what ublock needs is a flexible element hiding helper... and less flying menus...and custom block lists

In fact, I am interested in this Adblock, which is able completely block the Edge so, that whole other system would work. Haven't found it yet.

The One Button Pop-up Controller - in Firefox Navigation Bar - does the job. It's already enough for me.

IF I want to block. But most of the time I am a bit curious, so I don't want a total block.

That's where Bluhell Firewall comes in, preventing the obvious ones.

I don't want to see empty placeholders for example. Something Adblock Plus could do.

uBlock's concept is not my concept, but it doesn't do much harm either and like the others can be disabled in a sec.

So I guess I'll have an exciting extra beer on your health in the weekend. :)

In our face-off, you may feel free to arm your uBlock with Bluhell (or, any other number of additional weapons, too.)

You may also have the the privilege of dictating which site you want to compete at.

That depends on how you configure Adblock Plus — placeholders don't show-up, for me.

For those who do not know how to configure their Adblock Plus.

I completely agree dcseighteen I love adblock plus and it works perfectly I wouldnt use any popup blocker if adblock plus died tomorrow I wouldnt use ublock as a alternative I would find something else i wouldnt have to Im sure community developers would step up and continue the development of adblock plus.

I'm using Edge as my default browser, I'm pretty happy with it but I won't be using AdBlock :) I find AdGuard a much better alternative, now that I have 7 years of premium for it :D

P.S.: I love the updated forums :D It looks so clean :)

Just because something works one way in one browser don’t mean it  would work the same in the next . One of the downfalls of ABP  its element hiding helper and pop up blocker addons  only works for Firefox  its not  available  in other browsers  . That's the only thing saving Firefox right now is there addons if they break them like they say they are they will lose like half of there users . People  will switch browsers  in a heartbeat  that’s been proven already  .

Yeah, just a few of many reasons why the element hiding on uBlock ends up getting shafted so royally by prime ad. blockers such as Adguard, Adblock Plus, etc., etc.

The most used addon  is not even in  Firefox  Its  for GoogleChrome ..AdBlock is the most popular Google Chrome extension, with over 40 million users

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdBlock

ABP has like 28 million users  10 million Chrome users and 18 million users Firefox

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adblock_Plus#History_and_statistics

Just ABP is more talked about more than any other because  all money made from google and Microsoft from ads

Getting useless Rated 3 out of 5 stars

ABP was amazing, but now it's becoming useless because more and more ads are being white-listed. You can still disable them manually, but it kinda beats the purpose...

Opps the developers forgot to to delete a comment from AMO

Most  ABP  users at  AMO  could care less about blocking elements

You do the math they have over 11 million users Firefox and only 752,490 users Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/elemhidehelper/

How can this annoying pop-up window being blocked with

Adblock Plus OR uBlock Origin and have imagebam still functional

(i.e. being able to download the image when clicking on the upper-right corner button)?

Check out use the following 2 rules:—

Blocking Rule:

Hiding Rule:

Edit:—

Please note, I have made mention of merely 2 rules which affect you, WRT that pop-up — would have loved to outline the set of complete rules for that site (unfortunately, it is banned in my country— had to use unconventional methods to gain access.)
