Chancer
Why - becasue of the numerous reports from people who have used driver update programs and bricked their system.I, like many others, believe that using Windows update in the first instance, and turning to a manufacturer on the rare occiaisons there is a problem not addreesed by Windows update, is a far safer option.Does that answer your 'why'? I have tried several and bricked my system a couple times, only to be saved by full image backups. They work fine till they don't work and then it is too late. Besides that there is the fact that if you check your manufacturer they don't necessarily have the latest drivers on their sites, just the ones they have verified work with their hardware. New drivers don't always work well with older hardware. The old adage of 'if it isn't broken don't fix it' is especially applicable to driver update software. stylemessiah
Never use any "driver updater software" Things ive seen them do over the years, and tested and seen them do: * Claim theres a newer driver than the one installed (which is actually vendor latest and installed by me), then remove the current up to date driver, install an earlier drive but present it as the later one* Claim theres a newer driver than the one installed (which is actually vendor latest and installed by me), then remove the current up to date driver, install the same driver as i had installed* Claim theres a newer driver than the one installed (which is actually vendor latest and installed by me), then remove the current up to date driver, and fail to install anything* Completely hose a system Stop being lazy, go to the vendors website and check their drivers manually, or if youre on a brand name PC, use the often inbuilt vendor update checker Never use this crap
