I don't think the speed will differ much, even if it would you can't really test it and even if you could test it I doubt it would differ more than a kilobyte a second or something.

I do think that most people would point out IDM as the best (from what I've heard), I personally don't use any download manager.

ps edited your title to be a little more descriptive ;)

3)DAP. It is the only program that took me to 425kbps on my 256kbps on the previous connection I had, it gave me max 150-200 kbps in all the downloaders I have use. So far Orbit, Internet download manager, DAP, Free download manager and many more.

There is a Mass Downloader similar tool for free: Free Download Manager.

But i'd prefer a lighter and portable version <1MB (sometimes you need to squeeze your line up to its limits when 1-thread downloading is certainly slow compared with your limit).

I use an older cracked EXE from an installation of MD back in 2004. Call it "Portable" with many quotes xD.

here,s another Downloader of some sort, if somebody needs it

METARs Downloader v1.3.0.7

METARs Downloader is a METAR / SPECI data processor that you can use to produce weather content for a web site or web cam. It can also be used as a personal weather tracking tool by persons or organizations without a web site or web cam. METARs Downloader produces Thirty Five , (35) output items from the METAR data it downloads from the NWS servers. Thirty Three, (33) of these outputs are available as charts, images, or text files which can uploaded by the program to be used as web site content. Of those thirty three data items eleven are available as text output only. These are the chart data files, weather log file, raw METAR data, and raw TAF data. The software also has a extra feature for those who are in a marine environment, a built in NDBC - (N)ational (D)ata (B)uoy ©enter browser where you can access data reported by C-MAN stations and buoys in the network.

DownloadStudio

DownloadStudio is the ultimate Internet download manager that gets everything on the Web. Its perfect for downloading files, programs, pictures, audio, video, complete Web sites and complete FTP sites from the Internet.

Unlike other download managers that just download single files, DownloadStudio can download complete Web sites, complete FTP sites, pictures from Web sites, streaming audio and video.

DownloadStudio is an internet download manager with browser integration. Features include fast, multi-connection downloading; visual site explorer; category organizer; built-in thumbnail file browser. The visual site explorer that lets you get 'under-the-hood' of your favorite web sites to see what files are used to make them.

This allows you to download only the specific files that you are interested in. It has high performance, multi-threaded, multi-connection technologies that allow you to download many files at the same time.

While I rarely use download managers, when I do use it I use Free Download Manager (FDM). As far as I've noticed it has all the features and functionality of the "popular" Internet Download Manager but like the name says its free, plus what I like it about it most is that is doesn't seem to spread itself all over your system like Internet Download Manager (IDM) does.

Frankly they aren't all that useful anyway considering most download sites one will have to deal with won't allow multiple concurrent connections which is the whole basis of the "acceleration" these download managers provide.

The most useful download manager, which is sort of in a different class of download manager from those two and what I use most often is JDownloader. Very very useful for downloading the split movies, appz, etc on sites like rapidshare, megaupload, etc etc. Its good stuff.

JDownloader -> Java

I personally dislike having virtual machines degradating my PC.

Yeah the one thing I dislike about JDownloader that it runs on java. But it makes up for it with the convenience it provides, most specifically how it can be set up with your specific router to disconnect/reconnect from your ISP so as to reset your IP and get past the download limits for free users put on by sites like rapidshare. Not to mention its CAPTCHA recognition. I loves it soooo much. :frusty:

Can we stick the english please :)

Roughly translated (from Donizme): IDM is very good. I've been using it for ages. My urdu is poor, but look at what i have done.

And no, i don't speak Urdu before anyone wonders. Understanding is another thing though

download managers decrease download time by making multiple concurrent connections with the site ur downloading from.

none of them has never doubled or tripled my download speed.

a good download manager,is a useful software as it does more than speeding up downloads.

@implague Which ISP do you use? I didn't say 256max but normal speed 256 said by the ISP. I had 2mbps max speed at that time and after using DAP it took me max 400 that is not very much possible on 2mps connection. And no I didn't feel insulted.

@karachidude I agree with you and on the other side every modern day download manager does "decrease download times by making multiple concurrent connections".

I found the ability to resume download a great feature in Download Managers.

Most, if not all download managers have this feature.

But I am using Internet Download Manager for a long time and have not found any problems with it. Still sticking by it.

Maybe someone could recommend me a better download manager. I would certainly loved to try it.
