Require Permission?

Recommended Posts

every time i unpack an archive and there are exe files in the folder, i cant delete nor rename the folder, before i go into the folder and delete the exe files.

"you require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder"

using win7 x64 and i am an admin (uac off).

anyone an idea how to change this behavior?

thanks.

HOW do i disable the security completely??

exactly this is what im looking for!

alemane: i dont want to use 3rd party software to use this!

@hx1: of course it works with taking ownership, but ii dont want to take ownership EVERY time i create a folder! this is what i want to avoid.

every folder is created with administrators owner, but im an admin, but NOT administrators.

Okay by process of elimination here you said you are an administrator and by default the permissions on the files are set to administrators.. Yet you have not Full Control over the files in question...Administrators is different from only the Administrator account of a system.. especially when indicated correctly in GP.... There could be your problem as well..

Therefore I am guessing that in fact your account needs to be checked for what Group you are in and double check the account your using.. This error can be caused by a multitude of different causes... and they vary greatly from one OS to the next.. This can range from Group Policy and Security Policy settings that have been initiated ( yes even if your not a Group Policy Client ), have seen DEP cause a similar issue.. as well as ownership settings that are left in place within the file/datastream of files which are archived or compressed.

SO.. what program you are using to do so... if your program has an option to keep default data or filestreams in place especially from NTFS.. then turn the option off.....and just a random question.. are these files from a particular place ( which I do not need to know ) or are they all from different sources?.. are these files on the main drive or networked/mapped ( see The command -> Net user administrator /active:yes - log out then back on ), filesystem of the drive?... and is your account listed in the Sharing section for the drive either ( networked ), is this done on an NAS? The next question I have is the security settings of your main HD, .. are there three listings? ( Computername-\Users, Computername-\Administrators, AuthenticatedUsers, SYSTEM.. )... Next is the same as above.. are you running any type of security software, that may be scanning or locking the files, including default security software from Microsoft? When these files are locked sometimes strange errors like this may show up on older operating systems.. On Windows 10, it will tell you the file is in use and by what or whom...

and yes in the instance that an application is locking the file for use ( or if it is running in your task manager like an infection ) running in safe mode will enable you the chance to delete it.

This does sound stupid, but just a check to make sure you are extracting the archive, not just double-clicking which will trigger default behavior in Windows to open Explorer to view the files inside.. at which point nothing can be done with them as far as executing or deleting...

It is also mentioned here that you may in fact have unpacked a virus.. This can be in effect true to the point.. especially in archives which have archives.. inside there can be small files which can trigger exe files and infect a system.. They also can be a part of the exe extracted... One of which I know myself will install Privoxy malfunctioning of course.. slowing down your internet and serving up thousands of files to your browser...

Sometimes when extracting files which are part of Windows, this action can be happening if they retain file names which match areas of the system.. and default protections are in use.. they will be checked rigorously...

Lastly this has happened to me before in Windows 8.1 Pro. it showed up and was gone all in the same breath.. so why it is hanging around on your system I am not for sure but I have mentioned here a few areas to check.. and relisted some things mentioned above.. Searching rendered no results as well... a few ideas..

Does it do this when you create a new folder anywhere at all?

That depends on your security system — it differs from program to program (can't be specific since we do not know the constitution of your security system.)

its the internal drive, not networked or shared. my account is user but admin (seen under user accounts in controlpanel).

there are 4 groups system,authenticated users,administrators (username/administrators), users (username/users).

that seems to be the problem, that every folder i also manually create, its created under the ownership of administrators, not users/mine.

and im not running any security system nor win defender and no file is locked. its a blank new win installation. locked isnt the issue here the wrong ownership of a folder is.

again when i create a folder on one of my internal drives (creating on an usb drive there is no problem),

and when i copy ANY exe into this folder, doesnt matter which exe from differnet places, i cannot delete the folder anymore.

when i delete the exe first, then i can delete the folder!

the owner of the folder is Administrators (username\Administrators) and not myself it seems.

when i manually change the permission on the security tab to username (username-PC\username), i can delete it normally.
