Chrome & Firefox’s Market Shares Zooming, But in Opposite Directions

With the latest browser market share statistics now available, it is becoming apparent that the infamous ‘browser war’ is all but over. Market share as at the end of October shows Chrome achieving a new milestone, breaching 30% for the first time, while Firefox’s market share creeps ever closer toward a disastrous single digit:

Comparing Firefox and Chrome’s market share from November 2013 to today shows an overall massive 23% swing in favor of Chrome during the past 2 years – bearing in mind that, in a market place involving millions of users, even a single percentage point represents significant numbers.

Internet Explorer still leads the pack, largely due to the fact that it has always been built into Windows and therefore readily available, but I wonder for how much longer?

With Internet Explorer virtually “hidden” in Windows 10, it’s obvious that Microsoft is keen on phasing out the old browser in favor of its new “Edge” browser. However, I doubt Edge will ever achieve the same level of market penetration as Internet Explorer has enjoyed for so long.

With Microsoft’s earlier promise of extensions availability now on hold until at least the middle of next year, plus Cortana’s limited availability, Edge certainly hasn’t started well. One would have thought that “missing the boat” so many times during the past few years might have impacted on Microsoft’s thinking but, alas, the Edge extensions fiasco and limited accessibility to Cortana, prove otherwise.

It all sounds very much like another victory for Google to me, with Chrome set to become the dominant browser of choice.

Seems the real truth is the more people that use Windows 10 the less people use IE and Firefox Marketshare has been about the same every since last summer.

Seems Firefox is on a one way trip to hell to become almost like Chrome . That's the very reason I don't use Firefox or Google Chrome . I use forks of both . Before its over with to use old addons safe you need to install a VM and use a old browser version . I even read this at Mozilla once they do away with plugins alot of people need java for work then after they do away with plugins then the will get Chrome addons.

Firefox is much less polished and every feature you can think of they have that Chrome hasn't, is going to be gutted.

Firefox is becoming a Chrome imitator, and it will be a bloated, slower, older code version of it. They will not be able to out-Chrome Google and there will be no reason at all.

for those who say it's open source, well so is Chromium.

It's not about which is better to me, as I use both.

But one is trying to become an inferior copy of the other and losing everything that ever made it good in the process.

I don't even like using browsers there the most unsecure thing on the internet today its were most malware comes from ..But I have to use something so I just use the ones that offer the most privacy features and let the big 3 fight over there not secure software . I just add beefed up security to what ever browser I install . Canvas blocking don't even work in most Chrome type browsers anymore that right there is a big turn off to me .
