Sumatra PDF 3.1.1

Sumatra PDF is a free, slim, open-source PDF viewer that does what any other pdf viewer does. It's small size and low memory consumtion makes it an ideal program for older systems. Sumatra has a minimalistic design, small and starts up very fast. It's designed for portable use: it's just one file with no external dependencies so you can easily run it from external USB drive. SumatraPDF is one of several apps knocking around that are designed to simplify your PDF viewing - and it doesn't do a bad job either. Opening files in the program is virtually as quick as opening and closing your eyes and it doesn't take a genius to find your way around the interface.

Thanks to SabotaSe for the update.

First case of reverse-zipping I've seen

SumatraPDF-3.1.1.zip is 6.420.182 bytes

unzip it and

SumatraPDF.exe is 6.420.040 bytes

IOW, the content is bigger than the envelope.

If it was a SFX, I'd be worried....

But what worries ? Is it the way, how are zip and exe files compressed?

Maybe you have not discovered that the .exe files are also compressed files?

And files may be compressed in very different ways and with very different level.

SumatraPDF.exe is not compressed, but it is highly compressible.

It's 6.12MB, and if you compress it with UPX you will get a 3.03MB file. If you zip it with any zip utility, a 3.44MB zip. Using standard settings in both.

All of which is besides the point. It's the first time I see an uncompressed exe zipped to a file larger than the original. I wrote to the author, still waiting for reply. If he bothers to reply, I'll post it here.

It's just a problem of choosen compression level.

The author simply forgot to use the "deflate" level and used the "store" (ie no compression) level, hence considering there are headers, checksums, the zipfile is bigger than the original executable.
