bruinator
Hi,For the past 5 yrs i keep on getting an issue with "not responding" on various things such as IE, Firefox, ms office, outlook, applications, file explorer... etc. It has happened with various operating systems as well such as win 7,8, 8.1 and 10. I have always has bitdender total security or kaspersky TS and malwarebytes and superanti spyware running all at the same time. I do a full system scan with each one on different days of the week. If i get any negative responses from each i always delete them. The question I have for you is why do i get these "not responding" issues and how can i prevent them from happening? I appreciate any positive help given.thx
Ballistic Gelatin
Always deleting 'suspect' files is NOT a good idea. Some of those files may be false positives and required for proper operation of the 'infected' software. Never just delete a file just because an anti-malware program tells you to. Research the suspect file, and then create a System Restore point (at the minimum) before deleting it.If certain software is 'Not Responding' on a consistent basis, reinstall or repair it. And your anti-malware programs could be conflicting with each other. Uninstall one and monitor your system's behavior.
HX1
I agree with the above if you have multiple security solutions running, they eat up RAM and CPU usage.. leaving little for the remaining programs to use... If any of them have active monitoring then you have an issue where access to various files and parts of the system is halted until the process is finished.. Particularly if large files are being scanned.. Even in the case of having one security suite installed it is advisable to allow or exclude certain areas of the system and file types... then on occasion, do a full system scan without any exclusions. CHECK THE EVENT VIEWER for errors and problems.. fix services and issues there if there are any... The Operating systems you listed all have processes that run in the background that can be interfering with the smoothness of your system, as well as Windows Defender and in Windows 10 there is an operation that occurs which checks system files as they accessed or changed which checks for changes in the files and for checksum/encryption if I am not wrong... One issue I have been having as of late is that when I go to my Network, and go to view it .. It either keeps giving me a notification that sharing is not turned on or that in fact during scanning for network resources it freezes the explorer windows and crashes when you try to close it.. it then restarts explorer.. I have yet to find the cause of the problem and as to why it does this ( turns sharing off.. acting as though I have changed Networks and keeps changing the network profile to public. Bottom line here.. there are MANY reasons this could be happening on your system.. some of them may be related to your activity with security and cleaning.. and the system recreating and scanning those files again.. but it may not be the only reason these things are happening.. Literally I can thin of about 20 things off the top of my head where I have seen this side effect... BUT without sitting in front of your computer and following the events and backtracking what was done or occurred that I know about.. it is hard to say.. as well as seeing the processes and System Resource usage at the time per file or service.. nor knowing how your network is setup or your router or anything else... Best advise.. would be to start from one end and finish out on the other.. Look at everything and tweak in your system hardware settings as best possible, check the event viewer for errors after optimizing your services.. One area which a lot of people overlook when doing so... EDIT: ONE major cause of things of this nature are updaters running in the background... Adobe, and GoogleUpdater are notorious.. you can remove these components and disable them if you want these softwares.. I do.. helps in a major way.. Don't forget to optimize your Task Scheduler for some of these.. and regular startup.. clear out unnecessary stuff... especially uneeded task tray junk... Incompaibilities and memory leaks that have not been programmed out of some apps and installations, especially older versions.. also contribute to the behavior described. straycat19
This one is easy to fix, just a loose nut on the keyboard. :D
bruinator
Guys, Could all these host entries be causing my "no response" issues? What causes them? If it is the issue, how do i fix them?thx
hawk007
Do you run all the Antivirus / Internet Security / Anti-malware at the same time? This will cause serious system hog of uncorrectable nature. The solution: install one, activate one.

Kalju
I agree with @knowledge, You have too much a PUP software I do not see any cleaning software, even not CCleaner; What is the RAM (how much), and what is the frequency of the CPU? Non-compliance is generally obvious sign, that some files are corrupted or system file association is prohibited, what is the permitted waiting period for replying files and apps, before they will close or the forced closing begins (The time to wait When a program or service hangs). Typically they are in Windows about 15 seconds, it would be normal if are about 3-4 seconds.
HX1
Well one thing I do see in that partial list is HP Service.. for what part of your system is that for? Support apps and updaters all technically need to go.. I ripped all of HP's junk out of my system and installed a new OS without it.. Usually symptom is spotty performance.. working fine for a little while, then the system seems to be waiting on something .. even when you have nothing running because it is all happening in the background.. I would look at that too.. I have about 30 Windows Processes running and 53 others with whatever else is running that I have opened.. This all included apps running n the background...
