You should be able to set it the same as 2013 so that it moves junk mail to the deleted items folder but you still have to empty that folder. I don't use 2016 but in 2013 I found that the easiest thing to do was to right click deleted items and junk mail and choose empty folder every day before I shut it down.

You do not unless you have it configured with your mail provider.. For instance at the site where you would go to get your mail.. and not all servers have this option.. For the simple that some people have to chek the folder for email which may be directed there by mistake..

In Outlook you will have to Empty that folder as well OR you will need to go through and delete it manually as you sort it.. where it may/may not go to the Trash folder.. ( depending on how you have it configured on the server side..

All ofthese issues are going to simply be part of how Outlook works.. some of these options are not going to be in place because of the vast range of needs of customers who use the application and the size and efficiency of the application to have to incluse ALL of them.. So like mentioned above .. if you just want to empty it all right click n it and Empty it in hte pane on the left.. first then go to trash or deleted and empty it..

I would also visit your email server in the browser and look for options concerning POP access.. IMAP.. so on for how they are to handle this area.. if options are provided.

You may also go to File then in that window under the Account which is listed open account settings.. then select the account click on change.. on that window go to advanced if it is provided for that account type and go to the last tab.. at the bottom are two options ( again only if provided for that account type and server ) which concerned mail deletion and marking them for deletion.

This is basically the options you have. I would also get to know the application well by cruising all of the options area in Outlook so you know of the configurability and options you have to choose from.. This will help you use the application more efficiently.
