Step1:

download and install IDM duh. The part when installing IDM, i would first disconnect the internet first. If your connected wired, unplug your ethernet. if your connected wireless, disconnect your wireless internet.

Step2:

Use NopX-4's instructions for blocking IDM call home. i strongly recommend using windows firewall control v4 since it's the easiest to work with.

Once you done this, only then you can connect back to the internet.

Step3:

Use any serial by keygen for IDM. it can't be invalidated because it can't call home :} You can find a serial posted or the keygen in the forum. Use the search for "internet download manager".

step4:

Whenever there is an IDM update, use the idmupdt.exe to update it. DO NOT use the default help>check for update within the IDM app itself.

idmupdt.exe is an offline-update-file for IDM.

Now your done :} for further settings for IDM, i can recommend the following (i use chrome, so these settings meant for that browser).

Step1:

Downloads > options > max number of connections, anywhere from 3, 6, 8 or even up to 32. Some sites don't like being hammered too much, so 32 might not be recommended for all sites. 3-8 might be okay though.

Step2:

General > make sure use advance browser integration is enabled.

Next, if your using chrome, go to your chrome extension page. Also go to your IDM app folder, and drag drop the IDMGCExt.crx to the chrome extension page to install it. And make sure extension enabled duh.

Step3:

General > customize IDM download panel in browsers.

make sure "don't capture downloads from web-players automatically" is ticked. otherwise you will get annoying amounts of spam.

next select the "for select files" tab. I recommend using the "Show download panel for selected links". Theres already a premade list, which you can edit if you want. i leave it as default. This way then when going to say.... youtube, you get the IDM download mini panel to show, so you can click on it and choose to download a video from youtube. Same thing for places like zippyshare etc i guess.

Step4:

save to. Designate a download folder so you know clearly where your downloads will be stored. You can choose to use category folders if you wish. I personally don't use that. For temp directory, you can opt to chose a different drive other than C, which may be a good idea if your using a ssd, so you can avoid wearing it down by opting to select a HDD to be used instead as the temp.
