A somewhat raw guide on how to get access to retail music for offline usage from Google Play

Requirements:

  • Windows
  • VPN or a Proxy in case u're not able to access Google Play Music by default (added by emerglines)
  • Google Account
  • Google Music Manager (optional)
  • IDM
  • TC (or alternative for easy search, move, rename)
  • mp3DirectCut
  • Firefox / Opera / IE (a browser that supports the "IDM download panel" on Google Play Music)

Steps:

  • Sign up for a free trial subscription to Google Play Music
  • Search and start listening to your selected song : https://play.google.com/music/
  • Grab the parts of the MP3 file from your browser's cache (Google splits the song in 30 seconds parts and renames them) to your selected folder
  • Rename the parts properly and put them in order (test it if done correctly by listening to the playlist with your media player)
  • Join the MP3 file the parts with mp3DirectCut's Batch processing... Ctrl+B
  • Upload the homemade MP3 file to your Google Play account (if this is done instantly then it means that Google already has a version of that file already which will be added to your library or u have a fast upload speed; right click on the song and click "Edit Info" from your browser context menu... if u're able to "Use Suggestions" it means u've done a good job)
  • Start playback and download the retail MP3 file (now a single file) with the IDM download panel

After a few tests seems that Opera is more likely to get the right mp3 parts compared to Firefox (might be that my Firefox settings are influencing the parts... not sure).
