These things happen rarely, but occasionally, however. You will discover that something has happened with the desktop icons - All arrows are gone and has appeared just some kind gray crosses. This can happen with Windows 10, if use some registry cleaner, but - alas, registry cleaner does not know anything about Windows 10. (although on the web site is written that it is compatible with Windows 10). What You will think, what You will do? How to restore? Here is a little helper, little tutorial. This tutorial will show you how to change, remove, or restore the default shortcut arrow overlay on all shortcut icons for all users in Windows 10.NB! You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to change the shortcut arrow icon. 1. To Change, Remove, or Restore Shortcut Arrow using a REG file.Download the .reg file below: Transparent_shortcut_overlay.reg Restore_default_shortcut_arrow.reg Classic_shortcut_arrow.reg Large_shortcut_arrow.reg Small_down_arrow.reg Large_down_arrow.reg Save the .reg file to your Desktop. Double click on the downloaded .reg file to merge it; If prompted, click on Run, click "Yes", if UAC is turned on, Yes, and OK to approve the merge; Restart explorer or refresh desktop (F5) to apply; Everything is done. Or download all from attachment.2. Change, Remove, or Restore Shortcut Arrow in Registry Editor. Download and merge Restore_default_shortcut_arrow.reg; Open Registry Editor, press (Win + R), type regedit, and press Enter to open Registry Editor; If prompted by UAC, click on Yes. In Registry Editor, navigate to the location below. (see below) In the right pane of Shell Icons, double click/tap on the 29 string value to modify it Type in the full path of your custom .ico file within quotes (if You want to use own icon), or copy and paste the data value in the table below for what overlay icon you would like to use, and click on OK.
