Reefa
Ready Labs Inc., in collaboration with the SNF New Media Lab and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University, has conducted an in-depth investigation of Adblock Plus – a popular, open source, ad-blocking Internet browser extension – in order to evaluate its effectiveness in blocking online advertisements. The study, completed over a six week period and involving over one hundred volunteers in an enterprise computing environment at Simon Fraser University, revealed not only that Adblock Plus was effective in blocking online advertisements, but also that it significantly reduced network data usage. These results could have significant repercussions not only individual users seeking to improve their browsing experience, but also to network managers with significant data demands.
