Windows 10 Upgrade Error 800704DB

Trying to Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro (from Windows 8.1 Pro), getting error message 800704DB. I get past the initial 'agreement' and it then goes through various processes and asks what to keep. Then the install begins and opens into full screen. At around 23-25% it stops with the error message as posted above. I have tried every which way, windows update, from ISO DVD, and from extracted files on different internal hard drive, and USB key.

I got onto MS Tech Support, who after some time decided to remotely help me with the install. The support guy had the exact same problems and did not know what to do. I was eventually passed on to a higher support person.

He decided that as I had a custom built PC, this was the problem. He told me the only option was to upgrade but without keeping anything, and left me to it! Well guess what? If failed in exactly the same place AGAIN.

I was no longer with Tech Support, so I got back onto them. The only suggestion they have for me is to do a clean install of Windows 10, but I have to purchase a Windows 10 Key for $135.00!!!!!!!

So much for a free upgrade.

I have installed the preview and current ISO into a virtual machine without any problem, so it should work. Maybe it is some software or hardware stopping the upgrade.

Anyone else heard of this problem?

I might have a solution to this problem because i had acer laptop problems with the "Get windows 10" notification would'nt install :wtf: so i did the upgrade from a usb drive, see Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool read here :D (Beauty about this, i can update on other computers without having to download the update again on that pc.)

Before upgrading you must have Windows 8 or 8.1 without defects, it must work correctly;

  1. You do not need to do anything other then open the Windows Update Center and then
  2. Check for Updates,
  3. select only Windows 10 and not anything more
  4. and then click Install and wait until the case is finished.
It may take long time, be patient.
  5. That is all you need to do.

If you need to do something different, then there is something very wrong! It is like usual Windows update.

This was from an extracted ISO, using setup.exe.

My first update to Win 10 was in an old Toshiba Laptop, originally running Vista, but subsequently had a clean install of Windows 7. It went like a dream, no problems whatsoever. That was the one I was expecting the problems with!

I was success after 3 days fail to install it. This my idea:

- Re-upgrade your Windows 8.1 Pro with Disk. This is a good idea if you have some error. Not lose your data and apps, don't worry

- Remove all removable device like: USB, second disk in HDD CADDY BAY,... unzip Windows 10 in a folder on desktop name like: win-10

- Stop ccleaner, windows defender,... stop all and upgrade to windows 10.

- When it say checking your system, please open CMD (admin) and use this command: net stop wuauserv

Everything ok with me. Hope u will upgrade success.
