Who stole my Recycle bin?

Recommended Posts

I went to empty my recycle bin and it wasn't there.

A check round my desktop didn't find it.

I have been through the tick and untick in 'Change Desktop Items' - that didn't help.

I have created a temporary link with C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder but that doesn't have the correct right click options.

So nsaners - any helpful suggestions?

Here is one more tool in case if you are in any way damaged register.

Download, unzip and use like registry key.

Here is its content:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]@="Recycle Bin"

I did. There was a lot of p0rn in there and other private stuff. So I borrowed it for a while. I will return it when I'm done :tooth:

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I have made progress.

A system restore didn't help.

The registry tweak didn't help.

Creating a folder and renaming it does partially work.

An easier way to that is to type Recycle Bin in the bar at the top of an explorer window, when Recycle Bin appears, copy to the desktop.

The problem with this and the renaming folder solution is the newly created bin icon does not change when empty or full as the original did.

I think I might do a Win 10 upgrade tomorrow and see if that fixes it!

Might as well wait until the 29th when it's officially released. Current versions still have the telemetry stuff that collects quite a bit of data from you. Otherwise, here are some other options to try: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/recycle-bin-icon-does-not-refresh-automatically

Tried all of those - no success :(

For the sake of tidiness, I never permit any icon/s on the Desktop - however, whenever I need a system icon such as the Recycle Bin on the Desktop, I use the following method:--
