Europol pledges to take down ISIL's social media accounts within two hours
Europol has announced that it's setting up a taskforce just to deal with Islamic State's social media accounts. In an interview with The Guardian, director Rob Wainwright pledged that officers would be trying to take down each account within two hours of being discovered. ISIL is believed to control upwards of 50,000 Twitter accounts, and uses that site, as well as Facebook and YouTube, to recruit new followers. In addition, the group uses social media to spread propaganda and issue death threats -- such as the one against Twitter's leadership, including co-founder Jack Dorsey.

there is much more needed to be done to isis/isil than taking down a social media page or two...do we really have to wait for them to behead us on our streets in our home towns before we see the threat they truly are in the world...isil actually beheaded tow boys for eating food on Ramadan and is now beheading women for sorcery..but no some think we should not get involved..even tho they have declared they will kill us all

If only as much effort went into this, that went into hunting down pirates, however that won't happen as there's not enough money it.

I think using social media to 'beat' them at their own game is a positive mood.

The trouble with fanatics, the more you kill - the more that join up. I don't believe traditional warfare methods will work.

Perhaps some variant on the psychological techniques used to 'reclaim' people who had joined religious cults may help - after all, all it is, is a cult.
