EXE Files Not Opening

Whenever I try to open an exe file, the program will open but then close immediately, giving the error message that the program has stopped working. It only happens with certain programs. I was playing a game and it crashed. When I tried to run the game again, it acted like it was going to start but gave the program has stopped working error. Then I tried to run FF and IE, and I received the same error. Then I tried to open random programs that were running in my in-tray. Malwarebytes', CCleaner, ESET, and Process Lasso all opened without an issue, but I could not get Adguard to open. I ran a scan with Malwarebytes' and cleaned my system with CCleaner, but it did not help.

Thinking that Adguard was the issue, I terminated its processes and tried to open it again with no luck. Then I restarted the computer and got a message that said Windows was configuring updates. When the computer booted again, I opened Windows Updates and checked to see which update had installed, but I didn't see any updates from today.

Everything is working after the restart but I must admit that I am a little concerned about my system. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, what was the problem?

Maybe your AntiVirus is blocking it?

I don't see why it would block only those specific processes, yet allow CCleaner and Process Lasso.

Try downloading and running RKIll to see if it finds anything.

@ Knightmare

Just open all the the topics you have created and then just take a roving glance at that one pager - you will have your answer (it is a reality that nobody would want to confront.)

A situation where Knightmare meets nightmare. :(

Perhaps you are right. My only concern is saving all of my settings.
